LinfordTractor Posted 27 March 2019 Posted 27 March 2019 A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of taking my four year old son to his first football game when Leicester played Fulham. Digressing, having been born and brought up in Suffolk, sadly I have the lifelong affliction of supporting Ipswich Town, something I briefly considered inflicting upon my son. However, having lived in Leicestershire for ten years, and my son being born here it seemed more prudent that he should support his local team, hence taking him to the game. Back on topic, owing to my poor admin I left buying tickets to the last minute and wasn’t in the family area and was somewhat nervous given that my experiences from seeing town play many times over the years haven’t always been great, However, I needn’t of worried, whilst clearly the result helped, I have rarely seen a nicer group of fans who generate such an enjoyable atmosphere in which a young child can have such fun, I genuinely think the club should be proud (and I am sure is) of having a team that is so well supported. As a side note, selfishly it was also nice to watch a game for a change where the team I wanted to win actually did! I hope the rest of the season continues in the same vein and wish the club the best of luck over the coming months. And again thanks for making my sons first ever football experience so much fun.
Wolfox Posted 27 March 2019 Posted 27 March 2019 Just squint and pretend we are Ipswich…. We both play in blue A noble thing to do…. I could live on Mars and my offspring would be forced to love city!
Fox92 Posted 27 March 2019 Posted 27 March 2019 Best of luck to Ipswich. I don't mind Ipswich and it's a shame you're getting relegated to League One.
Stadt Posted 27 March 2019 Posted 27 March 2019 Definitely easier for your son to support his local team, fair play for that. Our match day ticket prices are mostly awful which is something to consider. Even though we’re very pessimistic about our home atmosphere it’s still probably one of best in the league (which isn’t saying much), which is what usually hooks kids
Guest Manini Posted 27 March 2019 Posted 27 March 2019 I share the same outlook as you, I think if I have a son I’ll let him decide between Leicester and Leeds though, because deep down I’d want him to be a blue. I think I’d be a bit of a hypocrite if I forced him to support Leicester given that I’m such a strong advocate of supporting your local team (I know Leicester isn’t the same as Liverpool or Man U but you get my point). And to be honest, Leeds are a cracking football club, my hypothetical son could do a lot worse than the mighty whites.

In the ten years we were out of the Premier League it must've been a real struggle to get kids on board unless the parents were keen fans, now hopefully we've got the next generation and they can watch sustained top flight football.

They are horrendously priced.

The season I first started going regularly as a kid was 06/07 (or at least I remember going regularly), I once said Kenton was my favourite player

My elder son turned 12 just before Christmas and as a result is now classed as 'under 18' by the club meaning the cost of his ticket has gone from just over a tenner to £25-30. Speaking to fans of other clubs, I am not aware of any that charge so much for school kids. Have been thinking of writing to the club to ask them to reconsider this as it does seem really unfair. Surely, until kids are 16 at least, their tickets should cost no more than £10-15?

At first the club ignored but now I believe they have seen that the bracket pricings are way off and are looking at them. Guess we wait and see if there is any changes.

FoyleFox Posted 28 March 2019 Posted 28 March 2019 Our tickets really are not badly priced compared to other PL teams. Obviously depends where you sit and no idea on junior prices but we've the lowest priced tickets for behind the goal.

My advice would be for them to buy a membership so in time they can get a season ticket therefore get it cheaper over the season, people moan they carnt get a ticket then moan it costs to much, suppose seing as it doesn’t affect me it doesn’t bother me what they charge for single tickets

I got to go to one or two games a season when I was a kid, because that's all we could do. Why should people have to shell out so much just to give their kid a once or twice a season treat?
MarriedaLeicesterGirl Posted 28 March 2019 Posted 28 March 2019 I didn't have problems getting tickets last season when they became available on general sale on the website -- and they were the £26 variety. I bought the membership this year, just so I could get better seating selection. I have two boys, so am always sitting in the Family Stand, so it's £26 for me, £26 for the wife (if she can go, since she often works on Saturdays) and the big 0£ for my youngsters since they are under 8, and that is a lot cheaper than a babysitter. So I am spending either £26 or £52 a match for the family, depending upon the wife (a little more if we are playing Big 6). I admit I kinda feinted when I decided to get better seats for the Newcastle game (no kids and didn't want to be in the corner) -- but still cheaper than the Tigers. Again, never had a problem getting a ticket, even last year, when I didn't have a membership -- but I was always buying the day they went on general sale. I have to admit my eldest is somewhat bored during the game, but appreciates he was there after it's over...the youngest is a chanting machine.

If it’s only once or twice a season then what’s the problem, its like saying ‘why should a builder get his materials cheaper than jo public’ He gets it cheaper cuz he’ll spend money every week, so it’s right that they should have to pay a premium in my opinion
