ealingfox Posted 6 January 2020 Posted 6 January 2020 Me: I wish England's batsmen would play properly in Tests, avoid silly shots, defend their wicket and hang around for as long as possible. Also me: FFS Sibley smash it around a bit you boring bastard.
Md9 Posted 6 January 2020 Posted 6 January 2020 Just thought I would check the score while at work and stokes is flying. Need to find a stream to watch it on 😂
leicsmac Posted 6 January 2020 Posted 6 January 2020 Well done Sibley. We've been here before with Hameed and Jennings showing promise early on, but hopefully he can have better long term form than them. Also Stokes in destruction mode is a sight for sore eyes.
Voll Blau Posted 6 January 2020 Posted 6 January 2020 Pleased for Sibley and good to see Stokes being Stokes. Harmison and Pietersen were absolutely slating the Saffers' tactics earlier on the radio.

leicsmac Posted 6 January 2020 Posted 6 January 2020 ...argument for sending in Buttler ahead of Pope to maintain the momentum that Stokes gave? Know they probably don't want to mess with the batting order too much but I think it would have suited in this situation.

Guest MattP Posted 6 January 2020 Posted 6 January 2020 Delighted for Sibley, we needed him to succeed- time to persist with him and Burns now when he is back.
ealingfox Posted 6 January 2020 Posted 6 January 2020 No wickets for Philander on his last bowling innings as well - nice bit of inadvertent shithousery. Just got to hope he doesn't smash a double century including the winning runs now.
RowlattsFox Posted 6 January 2020 Posted 6 January 2020 Great stuff from Sibley. Shows the difference once you get a first innings lead, leads to a much more confident batting line up. Hopefully bowlers can get the same out of the pitch as they did first innings.
StanSP Posted 6 January 2020 Author Posted 6 January 2020 Good return innings from SA here. Thought they'd be several wickets down. World record chase. Not the first time they've had to chase down 438... (yes, well aware it was an ODI game).
StanSP Posted 6 January 2020 Author Posted 6 January 2020 Good confidence-boosting wicket to get just before the end of play!
Guest MattP Posted 6 January 2020 Posted 6 January 2020 Jimmy Anderson again showing how important he is.

STEVIE B Posted 6 January 2020 Posted 6 January 2020 We should get a new ball just before lunch if I'm correct. Hopefully we can pick up the nightwatchman early, maybe 2 more. New ball with them possibly 4/5 down should see us home. Jimmy only bowled a 9 overs today, so will be fresh too.
Voll Blau Posted 7 January 2020 Posted 7 January 2020 Burns out for four months. Absolutely fvcking ridiculous situation.

ealingfox Posted 7 January 2020 Posted 7 January 2020 Put a few quid on the draw this morning. Odds weren't great but it'll soften the blow at least.

Honestly don't see it as being any different to being injured in any sort of warm up. Players themselves have said that a game of football takes the players minds off the game while getting their competitive juices flowing while also getting them warmed up. Shit happens is the way I see it.

Shit happens is the way I see it. Football carries obvious risks that other warm-ups don't though. "Shit happens", but it happens all too regularly. Of course cricketers love it, they're sportspeople. And one thing you can guarantee about sportspeople is that they fancy themselves to have ago at any sport which isn't the one they play.
ealingfox Posted 7 January 2020 Posted 7 January 2020 Remember Glenn McGrath treading on a cricket ball on the morning of the Edgbaston Test whilst playing rugby as a warm-up in 2005. Surely played a big part in us winning the series. Realistically it's just bad luck and goes for and against you. I wouldn't say the risk is so much greater than other warm-ups that it shouldn't ever happen.
