Big Emile’s birthday today. Still criminally under appreciated across the world of football for me. What a bloody player he was.

Oh yeah. He became a parody of himself by folk too young to remember what he actually offered.

So many players, great players, who were prepared to say how great a strike partner he was.

From 1996 to, I reckon, 2002, he was a fine player. Not too prolific but quick, direct, powerful and unselfish. Cottee, Claridge, Owen all say what a fantastic strike partner he was.

Thankfully we had most of his best years.

There’s one man to blame for that, and he’s currently pretending he’s a boxer (unless he’s off doing something else). Basically a hatchet job.

Tbf, in his later years Heskey was really terrible. He turned into a complete parody of a player. Its strange because its not like injuries killed his career like it did to Owen. He just turned shit. But kids who are too young to remember Heskey from 1996 - 2004 think of him as just a funny meme.

Heskey was a brilliant, sensational player for us, and he carried that into his first 2 years at Pool (in partnership with Owen), but then something changed and he slipped away quickly.  Not sure, but I think it was a change of manager that did it (Houllier to Benitez?), under-valuing him, undermining his confidence and changing the system.

He never played for Benitez, he went to Birmingham that year.

His regression started under Houllier.

Max Gradel at the tender age of 34 has put Ivory Coast 1 nil up in African Cup of Nations.

Preferred starter over Zaha or Pepe...interesting

Both he and Andy King are older than Marc Albrighton.

Just doesn't seem right.

Just seen this after looking at his insta story and saying he's shocked by the statement. Reading in pure turmoil it seems.

Anyone for a Moore return to fill our CB issue?

Looks like a complete breakdown between club and player. Reading have really thrown him under the bus.

He's a strange one as when he was here he kept disappearing for a month or two quite frequently as well.

He must have his reasons ; give him time 😉
