Bartosz Kapustka reveals what he thinks of Brendan Rodgers ahead of Europa League reunion
Bartosz Kapustka joined Legia Warsaw in 2020 after struggling to break into the team at Leicester City

Former Leicester City winger Bartosz Kapustka has called Brendan Rodgers the best coach he has dealt with.

The duo only worked together for 18 months at Leicester City but Kapustka left with "great respect" for Rodgers.

While the Polish winger did not feature for Leicester in the Premier League under the Northern Irishman, they forged a good relationship and Rodgers taught him a lot in training.

"When I was recovering from a serious injury, like I am going through now, I was fortunate enough to run into Brendan Rodgers," Kapustka told legia.net.

"I believe that he is a great specialist, I think I can safely say that the best coach I have dealt with.

"Unfortunately, I couldn't play with him but I am very happy with the time I spent with him. The coach also helped me with many things in training. I have great respect for him.

"I was very happy with the end of my period in Leicester."

Kapustka is currently sidelined after picking up a bizarre injury in a Champions League qualifier over the summer, but he is looking forward to seeing some of his old teammates later in the week.

He said: "We live in such times that various comments or short replies to posts on social media are common. I'm in contact with several players from Leicester but it is not constant. Before the match (on Thursday), I will try to meet up with them in the hotel."

Legia Warsaw will be looking to cause something of an upset in the Europa League this season and Kapustka believes they are certainly capable of doing so.

"Nothing can be certain," he said.

"I think that Czesław Michniewicz is a coach who can really prepare the teams very well for theoretically stronger rivals. The English are certainly the favourites for the competition, Napoli is also - on paper, in the group - a better team.

"But everything is always verified on the pitch, you have to back yourself. I believe Legia will bring more than one surprise in the Europa League."

I hope he didn't get injured doing that interview.

“Best decision of my life” – Player explains snubbing Manchester City for Leicester

While he never really got a chance to play regularly at Leicester City, Kamal Sowah earned the club a tidy £8m or so in the summer.

Signed from the Right to Dream Academy in Ghana, the now 21-year-old was immediately sent on loan to OH Leuven in Belgium for three and a half years before being recalled in the summer and then sold to Club Brugge.

However, his career could have been very different, as he explained in an interview with DH that he could have signed for Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s side are well known for buying talent from all over the world to develop in their academy, and Sowah was another that caught their eye, which is why they tried to bring him in.

However, the midfielder explained he turned down the chance to go to the Etihad club.

He said: “Yes, I refused an offer in Denmark and I was also contacted by Manchester City. Many of my teammates at the academy in Ghana signed at City, because there was a collaboration between the two. My parents were worried because many of them came back to the country a few years afterwards, with a bit of money, but they suffered from solitude.

“I spoke with Ernest Agyiri and Divine Naah. They didn’t tell me not to go to City, but they told me their experiences, the many loans and that solitude. I wanted to avoid that, so I joined Leicester, telling myself it wasn’t as big. I think it has been the best decision of my life”.

Sowah may have never played for Leicester City, but the chance to move them opened a door for him in Belgium, as his exploits with OH Leuven earned him recognition in the country.

This led him to his summer move away from the Foxes to Club Brugge, where he now gets to play in the Champions League, having already faced Paris Saint-Germain in their competition opener and holding them to a 2-2 draw.

As for Leicester, they pocketed some money and made a profit in the process.

First 90 minutes in four years? That is so sad: he could have still been a regular for City. Dreadful waste of genuine talent.

That stat is absolutely bonkers and somewhat unbelievable. Hope he has a good season at Reading, got a lot of time for Drinkwater.

LEICESTER CITY IN THE EFL: REMEMBER LLOYD DYER? HERE’S WHAT HE’S UP TO NOWADAYS

 11 October 2021, 9:43

By

 Jordan Rushworth

Between the 2008/09 and the 2013/14 seasons Leicester City managed to rebuild after dropping down to the third tier and grew into a side capable of securing a return to the top-flight.

One vital member of Leicester’s squad during those six seasons was Lloyd Dyer.

The winger was actually the second player that the Foxes brought into the club in the summer of 2008, as they aimed to recover from relegation and build a side that could return to the second tier under Nigel Pearson.

Arriving from MK Dons on a free transfer, Dyer immediately added a lot of quality to Leciester’s squad in the wide positions.

During the 2008/09 campaign, the attacker managed to fire home ten league goals in his 44 appearances and was a constant source of creativity as well as he helped Pearson’s side clinch the title.

Dyer had shown that he was more than good enough to be making the step up to the Championship with the Foxes, and he managed to help the Foxes adjust very well to life back in the English second tier in the 2009/10 season.

A tally of three goals in his 37 appearances in all competitons that season played a key role in helping the Foxes secure a 5th place finish. That term, they were only denied a place in the play-off final by a penalty shootout defeat against Cardiff City.

The 2010/11 season saw Leicester drop off in form a little bit with the Foxes finishing in 10th place in the table. Dyer though was still a consistent performer and he fired home five goals in 39 appearances in all competitions.

The following season, Dyer was reunited with Pearson after he returned to the club after a spell in charge of Hull City following Sven Goran Eriksson’s sacking. That season saw the winger add another six goals to his Leicester tally in 44 appearances.

Dyer then helped Leicester reach the play-offs in the Championship for the second time in the 2012/13 season but they suffered heartache with a semi-final loss to Watford.

However, the 2013/14 campaign saw him play a key role in their title win with ten goals in 46 appearances in all competitions.

As Leicester prepared for life back in the Premier League in the summer of 2014, Dyer was making a move to Watford despite the Foxes having offered him a new contract.

Things did not go too well for him at Vicarage Road and he was sent out on loan to Birmingham City in January 2015 after making just 16 appearances in all competitions in the first half of the 2014/15 season. He managed to score once in 19 games for the Blues in his loan spell.

After being released by Watford in February 2016, Dyer earned himself a short-term deal with promotion-chasing Burnley and he made three appearances off the bench as the Clarets secured the Championship title.

A two-season spell with Burton Albion in the Championship followed and he was a very strong performer for the Brewers with him making 84 appearances in total and scoring 15 goals in that spell.

Bolton Wanderers briefly signed Dyer for the 2018/19 campaign, but he only made seven appearances as the Trotters were relegated to League One.

Dyer announced his retirement from the game in September 2020 after a brief five-game spell back with Burton Albion in the 2019/20 season.

The 39-year-old is now working as an agent, according to a recent report from Leicestershire Live.. He was spotted attending Aston Villa’s Under21s’ clash with Burton Albion in the Papa John’s Trophy last week.

Still don't know why he didn't stay for at least the first Premier League season. Put so much in to getting us there over the years before, very popular with the fans, the squad and the manager. Even if he'd not been able to cut it he'd still have got a good Championship move, was only in his early 30's and plenty to offer.

I could be wrong, but due to his age I believe we would only offer him a 2 year deal and he wanted 3. (Watford offered him 3 years)

I wonder if we would of bothered signing Albrighton had he decided to sign, we already had Knockaert & Mahrez on the books too......

LEICESTER CITY IN THE EFL: REMEMBER PATRICK KISNORBO? HERE’S WHAT HE’S UP TO NOWADAYS

Published  14 October 2021, 11:00By Josh Cole

After spending two seasons in the Scottish Premiership with Hearts, Patrick Kisnorbo sealed a move to Leicester City in 2005.

The Australian defender immediately emerged as a key player for the Foxes in the Championship as he made 37 league appearances during his debut campaign.

Yet despite Kisnorbo’s presence, Leicester struggled considerably for consistency in the 2005/06 season as they were forced to settle for a 16th-place finish in the Championship.

The Foxes were unable to improve in the following season as they finished 19th in the second-tier.

Kisnorbo featured on 41 occasions for Leicester in the 2007/08 campaign as the club suffered relegation to League One.

Following a period of inactivity due to injury, the defender returned to action in the club’s clash with Oldham Athletic in October 2008.

Unable to keep his place in Leicester’s starting eleven, Kisnorbo only made eight league appearances for Leicester as they secured an immediate return to the Championship.

The Foxes decided to release the defender in 2009 and Kisnorbo went on to represent Leeds United and Ipswich Town in the second-tier before sealing a move to Melbourne City in 2013.

During his three-year spell with the Australian side, the former Leicester man played 76 games for the club.

After calling time on his professional career in 2016, Kisnorbo decided to become a coach at City and was eventually handed over the reins at the AAMI Park last year.

The 40-year-old led his side to victory in the A-League Grand Final in June as they secured a 3-1 victory over Sydney FC in this showpiece event.

City also finished the regular season as Premiership champions as they finished two points ahead of Sydney in the A-League standings.

Kisnorbo’s side will be looking to make the perfect start to the 2021/22 campaign when they face Brisbane Roar on November 19th.
