Glen Johnson > Berahino

Anyone catch this on Talk Sport today?

Thought it was interesting and refreshing to hear a decent pro digging out a known slacker

Mixed views though

Sometimes not the most articulate but he's always been refreshingly honest in interviews throughout his career. Seems like a sound bloke.

Berahino is a waste of space. Glad someone has called him out for it

Glen Johnson is hardly the model professional, this sort of thing just lacks class imo.

I keep seeing this comment, what exactly has Johnson done to make people think this?

Surely if a player who isn't a 'model professional' is calling you out for being a waste of time you should really take a look at yourself.

And no lack of class at all, from the sounds of it Berahino needs a right kick up the arse.

Personally think Johnson has crossed a line - he's effectively trashed Berahino's future career. If the lad doesn't make it in the next couple of years, he's got a real struggle on with potentially his life.

I know plenty of former colleagues and mutual professionals from other companies - it's considered very bad form to bad mouth said person to others regardless of how poorly performing the ex-colleague may be. Words gets about and quickly there can be rumours on you.

Sounds as though Berahino has done that himself.

We don't know the circumstances behind why he's done that. Johnson didn't acknowledge that either. Didn't say anything like now is the time for him to buckle down outside of the bubble.

I find it quite churlish of Johnson to say all this when he played just 60 games for Stoke over the course of three and half seasons.

Or he has done other Clubs and maybe Berahino himself a favour by putting it out there. It's always been widely known that he has an attitude problem, but on the outside we didnt know particular details.

Now he can take a proper look at himself, train hard and prove he is worthy of playing for a club and their fans.

Footballers get paid extroadinary amounts of money and are very fortunate. As a minimum they are expected to be professional.

I dont see why players should get away with it, it they let everyone else down.

Football is so abstract in comparison to other professions, however I would feel it unprofessional in my line of work it somebody stated publicly/in a manner that any potential employers could see/hear, that X person is not fit for work and thus jeopardises their future prospects. I'm sure Berahino could get a job on TalkSport though, ironically, they don't seem to care too much about some of their employees pasts .

That being said, any club actually thinking of hiring Berahino based on his record, both on and off the pitch, over the past few years needs their head checking. It's not even as though he's been banging in goals left, right and centre to counter for his behaviour, in the way that say Balotelli, Di Canio etc would.

If true, then he's right to call Berahino out. Getting paid so much money and actively trying to jeopardise a club and everyone within it. A few strong words on radio isn't that bad is it?!

I can see both sides of it. It's not really the done thing to slag someone off in such a public way like that, but then why should someone like Berahino act so unprofessionally and get off scot free? He's only got himsellf to blame, really.

I dont understand why there is even a backlash against Glen Johnson for this.

I will always admire somebody for answering openly and honestly when asked to give an opinion.

Sports men/women are often slated when they are constantly giving the same robotic, pre prepared answers...yet many of the same people are now more than happy to try and pull apart somebody who is just giving his own personal opinion on one other person during his time spent with them.

Berahino bagged tonight on debut in Belgium for his new club

Good on him, hope he rebounds and finally puts in the effort required to play at a top level, in best Danny Simpson fashion.

Only person to drag him out of the mud is himself.
