Unless I'm missing a joke here, surely that was Nicola Sturgeon

Nobody wants to live in a totally PC society (and I'm as far from snowflake-y as possible) but the vicious and often personal bile smashed in the faces of anyone who doesn't/didn't worship at the altar of Corbyn and their hard left message, was just beyond toxic and unpleasant.

You can have political debate without being seriously abusive. It can be both robust and respectful. The language of the left, often sneering too, was not inclusive, as I've said before.

OK, it's the Express. But it's clear she personally dislikes Swinson.

Whilst I'm personally against how the whole house of Lords system works, I thought zac was a pretty decent guy? Wasn't he the one who resigned over the Heathrow expansion?

Only the generally voted against equality and human rights seems dodgy to me.

Seen a hell of a lot worse elected to Lords tbf.

@leicsmac surprised he doesn't tickle your pickle on environmental issues.

Yeah, DG highlights some of the concerns for me but my own take is that someone who lost three different votes of confidence by the public likely isn't going to be a very good public servant anyway.

In any case, for me what's happening with Goldsmith isn't really just about his own competence level, but about a system that is clearly willing to give peerages to blokes like him and how that could perhaps do with a bit of a tweak.

NB. His record on environmental issues looks a little patchy at first glance, and he doesn't seem to be much of a fan of improving public transportation infrastructure which would really help on that matter.

...is there some kind of "but thou must" divine unbreakable rules about human behaviour governing stuff like this lying around that I haven't got round to reading, then?

I'm really sorry but I honestly don't get appeal to tradition as a justification for something like this - or rather for allowing it to continue despite dislike.

No idea if what you have or haven't got round to reading, tbh. But it might be an idea to take of the 'we're all doomed/everything is awful' specs before you do - and maybe see some some things through the prism of lighthearted conversation in which they were meant.

Yeah, i did go a bit "shark at chum" on what was said there and for that I apologise. It just frustrates me when a broken system is accepted as a fait accompli because change doesn't seem possible even though it's all human institutions and change is always possible imo.

Fair one  No need to apologise!

Pound revival didnt last long, good for me when I come back to the UK for Xmas with my dirty European money.

We've got thousands in wedding gift money to exchange from euro to sterling at some point, can't decide when to do it!

I think the only thing you can say for sure is that there will be plenty of volatility. Real or imagined fears of no deal will cause falls in sterling and similar optimistic assertions of a deal will have the opposite effect over the next year. If Johnson chooses to take things to the wire there could be significant sterling falls as deadlines approach (July or December?).

They’ll never learn.

I sent this to a Labour and Corbyn supporting friend earlier and the response - "that's what the media can do to us".

And Corbyn demanded the resignation of Blair after ‘only’ securing a 60-odd seat majority in 2005!!

Labour - The party for the few, NOT the many.

That's the irony, the way they are refusing to take any responsibility for how and why they alienated so many. They really don't care, other than for their ideology.

I'm not sure you can tar us all with the brush, many Labour supporters (including some of the 'champagne socialists', like Robert Webb) have been very vocal both pre and post election against Momentum, Corbyn, McDonnell etc. I've signed up to the party since the election in the hope that my minor influence will be joined by others in steering the ship back to normality.

Both the main parties have got extremes, you only need to look about Tiny Tommy and Katie H*pkins being vocally in support of the Tories to see that. The issue however is that Labour have allowed their vocal minority to rule the party.

I agree and should have said "Corbyn's Labour...", which is what I meant.

Why I think it is worse coming from Labour is because they are supposed to be "For the people". And that is part of why people felt so alienated by them, but had the self respect not to be coerced into voting for them.

And there is so much ego going on, in the aftermath of the election result, protesting what was a democratic process. That again reflects what is more important to them, instead of being magnanimous after losing and looking at what went wrong,
