oxford blue Posted 15 November 2019 Posted 15 November 2019 This from the BBC website will remind those who saw him play of his skills: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/l/leicester_city/4009295.stm And this is the Luton goal: City have not had many better players.
Fox1970 Posted 15 November 2019 Posted 15 November 2019 Indeed a wonderful player, but it does seem that his reputation will be tarnished by the allegations of child sex abuse made against him . If true, it is not at all pleasant reading.

UpTheLeagueFox Posted 15 November 2019 Posted 15 November 2019 I have a copy with me in Cancun right now. Will post a review when I've read it.
trabuch Posted 15 November 2019 Posted 15 November 2019 Keith Weller (and Len Glover to an extent) was the first City player that made a lasting impression on me. I was probably about 6 at the time. I wish I had seen him when I had a bit more appreciation of his talent, but even as a child I knew he was special.
dynamark Posted 15 November 2019 Posted 15 November 2019 Just imagine how good Keith and Len would have been on a decent playing surface

LC/FC Posted 15 November 2019 Posted 15 November 2019 You know a player is good when he's said to be our George Best. The saddest part of modern reality, is how in today's world, video media is everywhere now and but it wasn't then. So many games consigned just to the memories of the generations that were present to witness it all as their Leicester period, and those fans that will inevitably get smaller and smaller with the passing of time. For those of us born of a later generation, apart from small clips provided by the BBC or ITV from their archives, we'll actually never know of the previous greatness our club has had the fortune have as our players. But when you hear the same names repeated over and over again, you know our current players are standing on the shoulders of giants of the previous generation and clips like the one posted can let those that were not even born, appreciate those giants, if only a little. As a youth of the Martin O'Neil era, though the Premier League's rebranding shamefully dismisses the past, I'm thankful for being able to have access to my memories and pressing play but those from an even longer time throughout the previous century don't have that and it's a shame if only to actually witness our clubs talents throughout our history, in motion. But as we Leicester City fans and supporters have our own generation of heroes passed down from our own mothers and fathers and our father's father. From the Izzet's, Walshie's and Heskey's of my childhood make up, to the Vardy's, Morgan's and Schmeichel's of the previous team to the new blood of Maddison's, Tielemans and Chilwell's of today and for tomorrow. When you hear the same name's repeated from those generations, Weller, Worthington, Banks, Gibson, Nish, Glover, Lineker, Lynex and so many more than I can't name and will never have the privilege to witness, only hear from the ever dwindling pool of memories. I once saw an ITV program on our older team from the 70's called 'The Mavericks' And I think the reason I love this club above all others, is that in Leicester City's DNA, we've always been Mavericks. That's what makes this club special. And now we have the platform to let our new generation of Mavericks to shine, so one day, we can tell our children and our grandchildren the names of the players we get to witness today and best of all, to show them.
LC/FC Posted 15 November 2019 Posted 15 November 2019 Whoa! I didn't start off wanting to write a semi-opinion piece... The words just wouldn't stop flowing. I just love my club!
fuchsntf Posted 15 November 2019 Posted 15 November 2019 This player for me ,was still the most underrated player that ever donned both an English & Leicester shirt... Until James Vardy, the only Mr-Leicester. Including Mahrez..the best Technical player I have seen wear the Foxes badge. Where Mahrez could play 15 meters inside his own half, upto obviously the Oppos penalty box,Weller covered, turned it on,or looked & played the obvious pass, from every corner of the field..and deserves the accolade of the English-George-Best...In my eyes he pips Best...because Weller was still entertaining at an high level ,past his 30s...Forgetting any Bias or immature reckoning The Best English Technical forward Player, next to Worthington not to achieve 50 caps for England.. Like Joe Mercer said the biggest traversity of English football at the time, backed by no other than Bill Shankly..2 of the best managers/coaches that has been seen in English football..and both Paisley and Fagan,a bit later added, thank God we only play him twice a season... If he had played during any of the PL-period..you would hear nothing but purring from new admirers..And journalist & pundits claiming he should move to another club.... What many never understand was his contentment playing for Leicester.. He like a few other were hurt and somewhat disgruntled of Leicesters downward spiral in ambition and club management, after Bloomfield's disillusioned departure.... Taking my support since 1958 upto the present...Still technically, a footballmind and game nous..The best player ever to carry 'our' Foxes badge... In football-story's and Leicester History., For me..for different Reasons.., K.Weller, Jamie Vardy, G.Cross maybe S.Walsh,D.Gibson ride their highest of white-horses..but for boyish,( for a 66yr old) unexplainable reasons.. Keith Weller, & Jamie Vardy are the two legendary names, with the most enjoyable Unforgettable memories that prance out in front, more than anybody else's..Though others carry also that legendare Status, but not quite so daringly or emotionally... If I could chose an offset front 4 that would be my dream front 4..In any imagined formation. Worthington..Vardy Gibson Weller Then 3 covering subs..of Lineker Rowley.& Glover.. I am also going to make a prediction.. 3 present players,if they stayed and carried us forward over 3-4 seasons.. They have the potential to trump those above named Legends..Tho' you see an out n out CF is missing.. Maddison could out trump Gibson. Tielemans & Praet could squeeze into laid back, one of the front 4 spots behind the Strikers, but on potential Playing skills alone could well nudge themselves in... Both Weller & Gibson could also play as old no10 positions, and Weller as a lone striker...but neither Wortho or Vardy could swap to those Weller/Gibson positions...And though I scream Vardy for present day Mr Leicester ( including that "only Vardy" character) Weller with also his own Persona, still carries that No1 Mr Leicester spot.. And yes he really was that good...!! Plus he never pushed in his Leicester prime for a move...that come later. Mahrez..even Glover & Goodfellow, technically brilliant... but!!!

I was just waiting to "get banged" Sometimes..like many football forums, fans seem to be more cynical,in some cases I am sure a large minority carry Voodoo dolls & pins around with them.... I prefer to keep positive, especially when on this forum talking about individual players...Yes Weller/Rowley were/are top of the tree..but following/supporting a club is also having memories of players like Bob Lee,Ali Brown,Kellard,Williams,Guppy,Chalmers,Leek,Revie,Joachim,Stewart,Sjoberg,Fern,Woollet,Earl,Farrington, Cheeseborough,Stringfellow etc,etc..groups of ,or indivuals who gave us a spark that lays opens up those future memory banks... I often go to the wiki LCFC player list. See which ones because of age never could see,but here and remember,my father, uncles,Grandad memories and names dropped..then those who played from my own earliest age,who I can just Squeeze out some recognition of seeing, and the ones that are simply imprinted at the back and in every corner of my football-interested-silly-fanatical brain..ditto for other sports!! Not just onfield, but reminders of meetings coincidental or otherwise..

Would of been great if England could of nicked Gibson from The Scottish..Johnny White kept him from bagging regular caps. Many Scots would have like to have seen both in the same side...scored 3 goals in 7 games..

When Revie was manager Worthington went in at half time in an England game and lit up a cigarette . He was told he’d never play again

Really enjoyed that post thank you, it brought back pleasant memories. I was a huge George Best fan back then and one of the first matches my Dad took me to was against United. I saw Best, Law and Charlton that day as Leicester won 2-1 (Nish and Fern scored I think), how lucky was I to see that. A mate often says, it was almost worth the entrance fee just to see Frankie warming up before the match back then but for me, my favourite always was Weller. My knowledge of the game in truth was very limited but I instinctively knew that I was watching someone quite special. And those white tights! 😄 As someone has mentioned, it would be great to revisit some old footage, if only it existed.

That Utd match was my first one too. 1968 I believe so I too grew up watching the Bloomfield boys of the seventies. One of the most underrated sides in the league and Weller was the one that made it all tick. The first goal in the video clip at post#3 has some similarities to that maradonna goal against England.
