Jimmy Posted 26 December 2019 Posted 26 December 2019 didn't they turn down £2-3m from us at a time when they were refusing to let him play or even train unless he signed a new contract?
urban.spaceman Posted 26 December 2019 Posted 26 December 2019 Our legal team's defence should be that Wednesday can't be trusted with developing players because they released Jamie Vardy at the age of 16. We felt we had a responsibility to save Hirst from a life of non league football and splint factories.

surrifox Posted 26 December 2019 Posted 26 December 2019 They’ll need all the funds they can get to pay the fine for their dodgy sale and leaseback of their ground to their owner

Clear abuse of the system and would set a horrible precedent, imagine if Man City took Chilwell to NYFC a few year ago for peanuts and then took him to Man City and cost us millions. If at the time we were refusing to allow Chilwell to play and turning down bids from bigger clubs because he wouldn’t sign a new contract, I’d say we got exactly what we deserved when he pissed off.

We'd be livid if someone did this to us and it's pretty clearly us using Leuven to try to bend the rules. It is a bit shitty what we've done tbf. It is. You're right. But not sure that we've broken any rules. It's no different to the rich off-shoring their cash is it? Morally corrupt but not illegal.
Ric Flair Posted 26 December 2019 Posted 26 December 2019 Let them have him on loan in January to cover it, the coonts
Sly Posted 26 December 2019 Posted 26 December 2019 Paying compensation after someone runs down their contract is a stupid rule to begin with. Surely I’m not the only one that thinks that?!? Bosman should have dealt with this as well.

They aren't getting anywhere near that from a compensation claim, surely we'll put that forward in any argument? Yes, it might not be particularly great practice from us and the loophole needs closing but Sheffield Wednesday had the chance to get a good fee and didn't take it.
Fox85 Posted 26 December 2019 Posted 26 December 2019 Right let's get this straight right now. Firstly Sheffield Wed let a player run down his contract. Either due to personal reasons or because he just didnt want to renew. If Leicesters sister club Leuven then acquired the services of Hirst and nothing was done then nothing will get done now. Did we get him through a loophole yes but that's what a loophole is. Yes it's a shitty way of doing things but its Business and thats what football is. In reality Shef Wed will just be wasting money on lawyers to a non existent case. Just send Shef wed some used clappers from the game and get them to recycle them for some money if they desperately need it. If Shef Wed want to waste more money and be more ****ed go ahead and fight a battle you will instantly lose. P.S thanks for Hirst looks like he will be talent for us 🤙👍😂
1972 Fox Posted 26 December 2019 Posted 26 December 2019 I think they're clutching at more straws than Worzel Gummidge having a w@nk.

Vestan Pance Posted 27 December 2019 Posted 27 December 2019 Mmm loopholes.....anything like the one which allowed Wednesday to avoid a points deduction after fielding too many loan players? 3 points that sent us to League 1? Oh well probably did us a favour in the long run😄

You can't sell what you don't own. Can't see what the fuss is about.

brucey Posted 7 January 2020 Posted 7 January 2020 WBA in a similar situation. Don’t need the foreign-club-under-same-owner loophole if you can find any random foreign club willing to act as a go-between for a small cut of the proceeds...

Love the sentence, "Villa have coveted Barry for several years." Just conjures images of Villa scouts wringing their hands and going, "you shall be ours, oh yes, you shall be ours..."
