@CWC1983     Seeing a (very) rare Dundee home win v Celtic, reminded me of probably the biggest upset in the Premier League era (1975+), when a doomed Dundee thrashed Celtic 5-1 in 1980.

Which, as you know, softened them up so Aberdeen could beat them at Parkhead 4 days later ... and go on to win the League.

I remember reading about it in the paper at the time (I was 9) , so I just watched the footage on YouTube.

Dens main stand hasn't changed a bit,and I bet the Derry hasn't either 😀

A very young Ian Ferguson of Nou Camp fame scoring 2.

Rangers really struggling for options, its embarrassing to have so many managers turn the job down. It's massive club but really poor situation the clubs in to attract a decent manager. The way its going they'll be knocking on Steve Bruce's door... that's desperate.

If Celtic are a Honda Civic, Dundee are a drunk 12 year old on a BMX. The lack of investment argument is BS domestically.

I listened to Tom English give Gregor Townsend a proper grilling about his Red Bull move this afternoon.

If the Football journalist's took the same approach then Rodgers failings would be laid bare.

The bloke is an embarrassment. I remember him calling us a Mini Cooper compared to Chelsea being a Lamborghini.

Must really motivate the players.

This is so Rodgers

The poisonous dwarf initiating his exit strategy whilst fully protecting his own reputation and absolving himself of any blame

Seems familiar but I can't for the life of me think why

It isn't just him, it is everything that comes with him. The group of media mates who laud him and have a go at the fans for daring to criticise, the soft interviews, the blame shifting stuff, the outright nonsense (saying when he joined us we were just happy to survive, for instance). He is draining.

From a Celtic forum

Tried to stay away from this today but eff it.
Been saying it for months, he’s done. He is on the managerial downslope.
I’m fed up watching Celtic centre backs having more touches than anyone else in the team and him blaming the players. And blaming the lack of goals on players no longer here? I’m amazed that other teams (like Dundee btw) are able to sell their better players yet still score enough goals to beat us.
If we are a Honda Civic, what are Dundee? He talks complete and utter scheidt. The sooner he goes, the better.’

Another one

With Rodgers comments post match, I think it’s fair to say he wouldn’t be gutted if he got sacked. He’s actively slating the squad, his comments today weren’t even nuanced at all.

He does this while £20M+ of his signings are sitting on the bench. Players who on current form would actually improve the starting 11 if selected.

His selection of Yang today was ridiculous, a guy we’ve tried to sell twice, only for us to then pull the plug. A player who was happy to go because he knows he isn’t cutting it here - but Rodgers picks him, I’m at the point now where I feel sorry for Yang as BR is using him to score some sort of point with the board.’

Again

Maybe the Board only gave him a Honda Civic but he is playing ia league where the rest are on Bikes and he is fekin it up.

And…

I’m as far away from one of these Angeopjiles on here can be.

I’d bet we wouldn’t be dicking about with 900 passes every game with about 60 percent of them sideways or backwards every game.

We would probably score some goals and that too. Which would be nice.

Finally…

Not a good look for a coach who claims to develop players.  They've all gotten worse under him.

It’s all so so familiar 😂😂

This is the bottom line, about the fraud Rogers.    The longer he stays at a club, the worse the players get.    Just like it was at ours.

It's funny how you remember things slightly differently, from how it actually was.

I just looked back at the table before the final Saturday in 1980, and I always thought that a win for Aberdeen away to Hibs would mathematically win them the title.   No matter what Celtic did.    But that wasn't true.

Before the last Saturday Celtic were actually a point ahead, albeit with a slightly worse goal difference, but Aberdeen had a game in hand (away to Partick Thistle).
Celtic could only manage a 0-0 draw away to St Mirren.   It was only that draw which meant a 5-0 win for Aberdeen at Hibs effectively won them the league.

I say "effectively", as it wasn't quite mathematical.  At that point, Aberdeen were level with Celtic with a 9 better goal difference, and a better goal scored.    So they would've had to lose 10-0 away to Partick Thistle to blow it.   Obviously that wasn't going to happen, but as I say, not exactly how I remember it from the time.

Kris Boyd loves to rant and rave, but fair play for sussing Brendan Rodgers out, everything he says about him is spot on.

I’ve seen numerous Celtic fans stating that Rodgers has checked out, but Rodgers is just doing what he always does.

He’ll have a period of success, after 2-3 years he’ll check out, blame everything on poor recruitment, mess the team up, then leave.

Guys he did an interview released at thr weekend about the pressure of the Celtic job for me that was a clear tactic to remind PL clubs he’s still about

He said managing in the EPL was like a holiday compared to managing Celtic. Well those final 2 years with us it certainly seemed like he was on holiday with the way he checked-out mentally.

Yeah if the holiday destination was Guantanamo bay

Absolute slimeball Brendan is, isn't he. Regurgitating the same old shite.

I hope his failure continues and the Celtic fans make sure more people realise.

I've said it before and will say it again, I harbour no ill will for any of our former players or managers broadly speaking, but Brendan is an exception to the rule. It is sad really given what he achieved here but he is so up his own arse and lacking in introspection that it is too difficult to see past how it all ended.
