Vards has always struck me as a lot smarter than the image he cultivates but he'd have to keep his temper in check. Roy Keane and Craig Bellamy have shown that being sharp, knowing football and being an experienced pro mean nothing if you blow your lid and fall out with people. The interesting thing about Vardy is that for all his in your face " chat shit get banged " type insinuation, there's very little evidence of him ever falling out with people in football. The complete opposite, his team mates love him and a lot of the opposition admire him. Given the unique story to him, wouldn't be surprised if he becomes an elite manager in his own way too.
Stadt Posted 4 May 2020 Posted 4 May 2020 I could see Pereira being a manager. Portugal produces lots of talented coaches and he seems intelligent
Fox42 Posted 4 May 2020 Posted 4 May 2020 Evans, Schemichel & Vardy for me stick out. Personally, I think Kingy is too nice to be a manager. The other three have that extra bit of mettle needed I reckon

Maybe but he's one of the lads as a player, as a manager you're slightly off to one side. You've got to make calls that upset them and they're going to do things that upset you. Thats the point you have to actually be able to reign yourself in. I think he's a very smart, witty, well spoken guy that likes to play the fool to mask the fact he's a lot more intelligent than most people assume. But there's no doubt he's got a temper. The way he blows up at refs and opponents, this is a guy that wrote in his autobiography about throwing a TV remote through the telly. I'm absolutely not saying he couldn't reign that in, nor am I claiming to definitely know the guy obviously.
shailen Posted 4 May 2020 Posted 4 May 2020 I think only Kasper has it in him from our current squad to become a top, top manager. He seems to have a great auror around him, definitely a leader on the pitch, a vocal presence in the dressing room and seems to understand the game well from some of the interviews I've seen of him. I don't think any other player hits all of these four categories.
Bazly Posted 7 May 2020 Posted 7 May 2020 Good, the best, managers are usually not defenders (definately not goalkeepers). Top managers of all time: Alex 'give me more time ref' Ferguson - Forward Arrigo 'play it beautifully' Sacchi - Never played professional football Rinus 'total football' Michels - Forward Pep 'I can do anything with enough money' Guardiola - Midfield Giovanni 'the trap' Trapattoni - Midfield Johan 'self obsessed' Cruyff - Forward Jose 'find me a mirror' Mourinho - Midfield Bob 'I played 11 games in 14 days when men were men' Paisley - Defender Matt 'never forgiven for 63' Busby - Forward Carlo 'called the diva' Ancelotti - Midfield For those mentioning Kasper, goalkeepers often make really bad managers. It has to be someone intelligent which rules a lot of people out, thats why the Nevilles make really bad managers - and they were both defenders. A double whammy. In the current side, it'd need to be Matty James or Demarai Gray seeing both have plenty of experience reading the game from the benches. I think, upon reflection, i'd rather look elsewhere.
urban fox Posted 7 May 2020 Posted 7 May 2020 I think that you have to have a certain mindset to want to become a manager and thats why many ex pros end up going down the media route instead. Personally i do not see Vardy going that way. For all his aggression on the the pitch, he actually comes across as quite reserved and somewhat shy in front of the cameras. He is, i believe, as some have already said, far cleverer than he is given credit for (remember on gogglebox, was always quiet and reserved but got all the maths questions right on countdown). Many think he is a bit thick, simply because he worked in a factory before entering pro football but that is far from the case. He may well make a decent manager in the future, but i think it more likely he will end up in a coaching/assistant role a bit like Shakey. Matty James could well have what it takes as he seems to have an affinity for the tactical side of the game, and his work with the youngster will give him a good grounding. Dont see Kasper as amanager. Generally keepers make poor managers as they are too specialised. It will certainly be interesting to see what becomes of our senior players once they finally hang their boots up. We do not have much of a history of producing top managers from within our ranks. One or two have dabbled, but thsoe that i always thought would be nailed on such as Elliot, Walsh to name but two have gone down different avenues. Neil Lennon is the only one that springs to mind from recent history. Going even further back nobody really springs to mind. I had Jon Sammels down as a prospect but apparently he became a driving instructor when he finished playing, and i believe Graham Cross ran a post office or something.

This is one of the more intriguing threads furing this lockdown period, mainly because we do have so many intelligent, football-aware and leader-type players to pick from in our squad. I'm interested in why goalkeepers don't appear to make good managers because, for a start, they are able to study the patterns of play much more than outfield player and have a head start in building up an all-round awareness of the game. I see Kaspar as a possible exception to the rule. He is flatly a leader, has a passion for the game, is intelligent and considered, and would be able to communicate his ideas very clearly. I could imagine him being a quick learner, too. It will be interesting to follow their future paths. I would love to see Fuchs as a manager - it would be entertaining - but I agree with others that he sees his future evolving in different directions. How lucky we have been to have a squad containing so many outstanding characters (which illustrates Pearson's astuteness in his criteria for squad-building). A big factor in our title win and our future development.

Can't argue with that logic.
marcymarc666 Posted 7 May 2020 Author Posted 7 May 2020 I hope Kasper's reading this and it's firing him up !!
