What plans has COVID-19 ruined for you?

A stag week in March (which I didn't really want to go on anyway)

The actual wedding on the May Bank holiday (which I did want to go to)

We were planning on going to go to Thailand for the wife's 50th in October, which is very likely to be off.

Two weekends in London and a long weekend in Verona all at the opera. The Verona flights haven’t technically been cancelled yet but I’m not spending 14 days in quarantine for a weekend away. Have been offered a credit note for the flights but wary if I accept before they cancel I won’t be able to claim for the accommodation.

Away from the City and Tigers, Elbow at De Mont. Hayseed Dixie at O2 Leicester ,  Bad Religion, Half Man Half Biscuit at Rock City, Tim Montana at The Rescue Rooms, Two Classical evenings at Symphony Hall Birmingham,  Pink Martini at the Royal Albert Hall and Rammstein at the Ricoh Coventry :(

A few cancelled in full, but the majority rearranged for December onwards. Nobody needs to tour in 2021 as I’m nearly fully booked already.

MCR gig

Mates wedding in Cornwall and 3 days down there

Trip to Bergamo to watch Atalanta V Claudio’s Sampdoria

Potentially the European away days which I’ll be gutted about the most.

I was Snowboarding in Austria in Feb watching the Chinese Covid dilemma on the news (whilst another resort 50km away was rife with it without anybody knowing at that time)

But that seems a while ago now. I started a new job at the end of Feb. I’m one of the lucky ones - it’s continued throughout. 6 month contract though so in a month I’ll be twitching slightly.

I’ve missed the odd pub visit (or the pub 3 nights minimum a week being honest) but live in the middle of nowhere so am fortunate to have been doing more of the outdoor things I love with my wife who is furloughed but also waiting for the results of redundancy consultations...

BUT

Ive missed my mates. Not in large gatherings but those smaller ones. Video chat is shite. It may work for business and families on a scale but the large rooms feel strange. I say this because you get mates of mates and 10 plus on the chat... this means essentially when alcohol is included, only a couple of exchanges happen at a time, and that means peeps forget who else is listening. It’s weird. But people say things in quips and jestful exchanges which I’ve found uncomfortable for others and myself.

When you walk into a pub with say 8 of you, the conversation breaks up into small sections and achieves actual depth - video chat doesn’t facilitate this and remains surface and superficial- almost a competition for attention and funnies... I’ve never been interested in the pleasantries - the value has always been in the depth and the close relations and the conversation feeling important, individual and personal. Video chat with the many doesn’t do this. WhatsApp is the same in massive groups.

And that’s what I miss.

I miss the depth.

I was fortunate enough to have one of my holidays before lockdown kicked in. Although I did witness police rushing bars in Riga to close them down as Latvia went into lockdown, that was a surreal experience.

Me and my friends had planned to go to a comedy club for my birthday but that was cancelled and I spent my birthday alone. We have a week booked on a Haven park in July which has all but been cancelled.

Despite this I remain confident and grateful, there are people in worse situations and have lost loved ones, not being able to go out for a night or on a holiday really isn't an issue in the grand scheme of things.

Absolutely, we gave up on our mate group chats after a while for that reason. You cant have side chats at the bar or whatever.

Bored of video calling already outside of work. Regardless of technological developments, nothing will ever replace face to face will close family and friends for me.

Well people used to say it must suck having your birthday around christmas but it worked out because spent my 40th in Montego Bay with the wife and kids over the xmas week. Many had planned to go away over March break and had to cancel so thank fook for that.

My brother was supposed to get married next weekend but well that isnt happening.

I used to work from home 1 day a week and it was fantastic as i was alone. Get some solid palmela handerson workouts on "breaks". Now, the wife and kids are home everyday and no palmela handerson in peace can happen. Makes wfh 5 days a week stressful! Lol

I finish uni next week and I had pushed my job back to January in order to travel to Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, etc for a few months. I’m still hopeful I can potentially go somewhere in November/December but I really have no idea at the moment.
