Perhaps i'm looking at it the wrong way but personally leaving it till the last day would suggest more of a panic buy than getting your ship in order and prepared early on.

 

I appreciate things go to the wire and transfers are easier said than done, but to have done such little business when we need to strengthen more than most in the league points towards excuses and panic buys - This isn't just about this transfer window either, we could and should have done more in January and we should and could have done more towards building our squad in previous windows.

I agree we should have strengthened in Jan but I'm still convinced we will make 2-3 more signings this window which would be about right assuming that includes a CB and at least one creative, attacking player. I assume we have several irons in the fire for every position we want to fill but as an example if's a toss-up between signing Tarkowski now or say Demiral on deadline day I'd take the latter every time.

I think the idea is that sellers will panic in this market so you can get who you want cheaper.

 

And how do you know we could have done more in January?

If you have 5 targets, three of them arent for sale, 1 of them does his ACL, 1 of them is for sale but at a ludicrous price, what do you want them to do? They needed a stop gap to let Benkovic go out on loan, who else was available to fill that role? 

 

The point being, you have no idea of our list of targets and you have no idea of what their status was in January. I'm sure they could have done more and thrown 60m at Burnley for Tarkowski but you'd have been frothing at that too.

I’m all for the Tarkowski sale, £60m is abit overpriced but this the market we’re in average players are costing £30m and we’ve had a part in creating if we’re honest - I blame the big clubs willing to pay it but we demand it also so have our part to play.

We have 4 games before the transfer window closes and I don’t don’t think we have enough cover for those games in total! We haven’t had a murmur of any kind for more signings since we signed Castagne and you know how long it takes the club to do a signing

We will be struggling to put a strong side together with the squad as it is and the injuries and suspensions, I think everyone agrees.

 

How long was it between us finding out we were seriously in for Castagne, and us finding out he'd done his medical? About a day, I think. The Perez deal was the same.

 

It's not ideal to do business so late, but I think there could be 2 or 3 more signings before the window closes.

With more games this season, a squad thats currently weaker than last season and no sign of reinforcements I would imagine we’d be at the bottom end of the table. 

 

I’m happy to reevaluate at the end of the transfer window but currently I can’t see us finishing higher than 12th, not with the last half of last seasons form.
