I dont know why but Pegguy is a hero. Nice long article and talks fondly of his time at City. Will always remember Arsenal at home in the FA Cup when I think of Pegguy.

Great article and character, an underrated goalkeeper for us and Liverpool.

 

Always remember Birch used to take the piss out of his accent during half time on the mic at Filbo. Great times!

 

I’m sure I read that after retiring he became a porn star for a while. That’s something not mentioned in the article and also something I’m not going to search for to confirm either...

One of the strangest goalkeepers we've had. Was an excellent penalty saver, yet at other times didn't bother to dive. Had an ability to catch pile-drivers without even flinching yet let in some really soft shots.

Love a GK in tracky bottoms me.  Banks, Shilts, Pegguy - we really have been blessed with some of the all-time greats at the position.

I was quite young back then and thought we’d signed the french number 1 at the time who wore tracky bottoms. Was over the moon. Of course Pegguy was a class above Bernard Lama

I'm the opposite. Don't like to see a keeper in tracksuit bottoms as I think it shows a sign of frailty. Keller was another one that used to wear long bottoms when playing for us. Man up and wear shorts I say.

Just looked up his career, he made a total of 39 appearances in an illustrious 16 year career, what a ledge!!

I don’t think he was a porn star.

 

Apparently he got a job servicing washing machines and providing plumbing services, primarily for lonely, busty, housewives who played nothing but 70’s jazz music on their stereos.

I remember watching him at Stamford Bridge right behind him and he played a blinder for most of the game.

 

We lost when Frank Leboef scored from about 30 yards out but he was our best player that day. Not quite as unexpected as the hotdog kid but impressive none the less.

I remember him making an incredible save from a freekick possibly vs Chelsea when we drew 2-2?  
 

Heading top corner and somehow out of nowhere got both hands to it and caught it.

Met Pegguy at the Corn Exchange on a night out with Neil Lennon back in the day before smartphones when footballers could have a drink and mingle with the fans post a Saturday afternoon victory at Filbo. 

 

Pegguy didn’t say much, but what an infectious smile 😀

Absolutely loved him, he was one one a few fringe players who seemed incredibly exotic and exciting in a period where we usually signed domestic lower league players. 

 

 

Him and Arnar Gunnlaugsson we're players that I wanted to play more than they did as a kid.
