Mindless

Not the first time. He has been consistently too casual in getting up to the line and often played players onside. Costed us dearly.

He should not be playing in front of Ricardo.

Hes just far too soft for me, jogs along side Watkins instead of making a challenge. On top of that hes regular for standing off his opponent, soft tackles, always helping up opposition players off the floor. On the pitch you go to war with the opposition, you can rim them after Timmy. Needs to get angry like so many of them

To many 2+2 = 5 on here about players, didn't shower himself in glory for the goal but then didn't see any lines on the screen to see how close it was to being off...but this thread goes hot again because of that moment.

What some fail to see is the wider game picture, who was infront of him (not for goal) & what is he being asked to do - Answer Maddison who drifts into centre & cover the entire right side both in attack & in defense. When played in that formation he is the most hardworked player on the pitch.
People pick up his position for the goal but no one mentions for Barnes goal which players were in the Villa penalty box waiting for a cutback - Vardy & yep Castagne, not Maddison or KDH or even Mendy, but Castagne, now bear in mind who delivered the cross for Barnes & from where & the distance involved, the lads worked bloody hard to get into the box to provide an outlet but no he stinks because Watkins broke an offside trap, why do people need a scape goat every bloody match.

Because they refuse to accept that we will get beaten by better teams. Better usually means , not quality, but confidence and cohesiveness. Rodgers has gone so its individual players who get kicked. One minute they are not good enough and then after a decent game they are good enough for Man.Utd. All our players are technically good but Rodgers has left a shambles that makes them look worse than the really are. Scapegoating individual players is cheap though and it really helps noone.

Castagne is probably tied with Barnes as the player whose game has been most stifled by Rodgersball. His defensive contributions have been iffy in recent times, but it's in attack where he's been really stifled.

I've kept a close eye on his forward play this season, and he's been hugely frustrating in his habit of checking his run and instead coming backwards down the wing, sometimes by 10 yards if not more, to collect the ball. It killed our forward momentum and put us at great risk of dispossession with him exposed in midfield.

At first I put it down to him, but in hindsight I fully expect he was being instructed to do that by Rodgers to maintain the awful 'safety-first' (in Brendan's head) approach, especially as I started to notice the same from Thomas, albeit less often. Forward balls to run onto were a no-no. He's had two games now with the shackles freed, and we've actually looked dangerous down the right wing again. Tete looks far more dangerous too, and it's because he's got a fullback making overlapping runs and actually getting forwards with him.

Our winner came from both fullbacks combining in the opposition box. When was the last time there was even a chance of that happening under Rodgers?!

Factor in a more reliable defensive contribution, and it's a breath of fresh air. Well done Timmy, I'm glad you're getting back to your best again. 💙

Always had a soft spot for Castagne and stayed away from much of the (deserved) criticism.

However, that push tonight was bloody criminal in such an important game. Completely moronic.

Happy to sell in the summer, as he just isn't good enough in defence. Fine going forward, but we need both.
