I can't find anything, but didn't look too hard, but has the Online Safety Bill been discussed on FT? A couple of other forums I use are likely to shut down completely as they can't/won't be able to cope with the compliance burden introduced by this new legislation.

Not sure if anyone else has seen similar?

I wrote on here a few weeks ago about putting a pic of vardy on our communal organised fun Xmas tree, and it being a huge bone of contention with the fun police. The winning floor was chosen, with the below message sent to all…

Goes without saying I’m enemy no.1 with the approved fun committee. Can overhear people gossiping about me. Never known this feeling, it’s strangely so satisfying!

What compliance burden?  As long as you're moderated and not deliberately hosting illegal content there's no issue.

I didn't say it definitely impacted FT, it was more whether it had been considered. And it's interesting as a 'thing' too, for the general public.

Looks like this (https://www.readytogo.net/smb/threads/the-end-of-the-forum-is-nigh.1646227/) Sunderland board has already taken the decision to close (for example) and suspect lots of indy or smaller forums are going to do the same. I imagine its the personal responsibility being imposed on those running the site as being the scary part?

Ofcom haven't even published the measures, if any,  services such as forums need to undertake so not sure why they're closing when they don't even know if they need to do anything yet.

And re: the risk assessments, you just need to have one.  Even if not written down I'm sure FT have one.

  • Do posters publish illegal material?  Not really
  • If they do, it's reported, deleted and users banned.

Risk assessment done.  I read that forum post and the link to LFGGS and they're talking bollocks.

Shrug

It was a question. Great if we (FT) are on top of it. I'd say that clearly there's no one settled view on it - given the press coverage on the legislation - but all good.

The Christmas break, if you get the basic time off, isn't that great. And this year it is in that awkward midweek slot.

I think the memories of school holidays have distorted the later reality.

It's the first I've heard about it but hopefully it doesn't come to that. it would really help if people stop asking and posting the illegal stream links though in match threads, I'm not sure this is even related to those but it would be a good start. Will have to find out what those more knowledgeable than me think about it all and where forums stand

Think it's just people need to understand what it means and not make knee jerk decisions like those examples you shared.  Only a good thing in my eyes that platforms are held accountable for stuff on their site, take the revenue and leave them unmoderated and say "but we didn't post it".  Just hope it's applied more smoothly than the absolute shite show that GDPR was and the cookies saga.

Apologies if first post was more waspish than needed, it's something I am glad is finally being legislated against but is being weaponised by the "free speech" brigade unfortunately.

Possibly put a pinned message at the top of future Match-Day threads, warning users of illegal links etc?

No apology needed!

Obviously I didn't/don't mean to scaremongering, but given that it's in the national press and other forum (fora?) are concerned, it might just be making sure we're all set come March.

Hopefully AI tools to automatically delete or indeed block such posts are imminent.

Unemployment blues can really question one's worth, even more than had thought personally.

I hate working, but the only thing worse than working is being unemployed. Honestly, it was horrendous.

Some more information on it, not written by me but on the Sunderland site.

The act and guidance as it is currently written means that we even have to scan PMs for illegal content (ie. not making them private at all!) - I think in reality that means that if we do continue we will turn the PM/Conversation facility off completely.

Its not a case of hiding it in another forum, we are expected to actively scan it, remove it and document the removal and retain the evidence for a specified period (I think this is 3 years)

And by "illegal content" they include stalking, harassment, threats or abuse, coercive behaviour and hatred - all of which we are expected to make a judgement on, and all those judgements can be challenged by the person who posted them, who we have to respond to via a formal process (I am thinking via some form of 'ticket system' which we don't currently have) - it is unworkable in a large forum like this staffed by volunteers, and actively empowers trolls to abuse it.

Private messaging is more than likely have to be disabled at the very least.

Seeing the Lockerbie trailer for the sky drama coming up with Colin Firth.

Remarkable to me that there was only 13 years between Lockerbie and 9/11. And 23 years from 9/11 til today.

Can still remember the newsflash. The initial reports of a plane hitting a petrol station that caused a fireball. Extraordinary, horrifying, scarcely believable images that followed the day after

It will be a shame if the PM's have to go as it's a valuable part of the forum, but I'd rather lose them than the whole forum altogether

It's rather depressing that the influence of xenophobic and misogynist bigots (and the ones encouraging and enabling them) has become so widespread and deep that a bill like this will even affect FT.

But a Google search will disclose potential streams without any involvement by FT. Most people already know which ones are available and which are more reliable than others. It's a personal risk to access illegal streams.

FT as a separate entity, has no connection with dodgy streaming.

Really all it is, is sharing information between individuals.

Someone with a stream could privately text another who is asking for a stream without involving FT.

Unfortunately disclosing streams via PM on FT is an easy but risky option (in terms of how it exposes FT to potential illegal activity) and I agree that there should be a message of dissuasion of some sort advising that publicly sharing a dodgy link is irresponsible and puts the forum we all love, at risk of closure.

None of us want that.

Cheese footballs and Baileys are severely underrated.

Baileys is shite, overpriced, and has a nasty bitter aftertaste.

White Russians are a miles better version of the drink. Especially if you use single or double cream instead of milk.
