Having stumbled across some stats on my Garmin watch which confirmed I wasn't far off averaging 10,000 steps a day over 12 months, I finally managed to exceed that figure and how do you think I feel?

Every bit as dead inside as you would expect

The whole 10,000 steps is as arbitrary as 5 fruit and veg per day or 8 glasses of water. It's different in different places and cultures.

Do whatever helps keep you healthy as an individual. Don't worry about hitting targets.

I go on walks but I don't care how many steps I take, I just do enough to get me tired then I stop.

How do you get back home?

I bet he calls his wife "I've done it again, I didn't care how many steps I did, but now I can't walk anywhere. Can you pick me up from the pub?"

But you don't know how great I look*

I know it's all bollocks, but I was so close I couldn't let it go.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the 5 fruit/veg thing is supposed to be 10 but they haven't promoted that as it was believed that folk would say f*** that and not eat any at all, and they are correct to think that way

I'm really struggling to care about who our next manager will be.

Just like a player purchase, I have literally no control who it'll be and fan influence won't change the mind of those in charge. I'm interested to see how it develops and how long it takes, but the mass debate taking place about the options I just find it very hard to care about. Round and round in circles on the same 4-5 names, waiting for the slightest "insider" news or change in odds.

I just can't get into it and not sure if I'm just being grumpy lol

So here’s a can of worms for you all to feast on…

if smoking advertising is banned because smoking is bad for you… why not ban the advertising of fossil fuels  if they are bad for the  planet?

As much as I personally might want to, they are currently essential to civilisation as it is. Smokes are not.

I would certainly make sure such ads were regulated in a way that makes them have to indicate just how damaging they are and the work they should be regulated to do to transition to renewables, though.

Yes this is  a fair point.

I must admit to playing a bit of Devil's advocate here,  as this is a topic that is starting to gain a bit of traction and even has journalists from the BBC chiming in with comments and retweets..

I will add however, that they have banned the advertising of smoking more so than smoking itself and the banning of BP telling us about all their ' green initiatives' would be different to banning people from visiting a petrol station..

I thought I couldn't be more disassociated than last summer. I was wrong.

Does advertising fossil fuels make one use more fossil fuels?  Or just choose between ones you would use anyway.

Edit:  Just seen an article on the UN statement.  Government should absolutely crack down on greenwashing advertising, and I would say should publish some clear data on companies efficiency.

Very closely aligned with how much mortgage repayment people are making I would imagine.  A huge proportion of those older groups have paid of all or most of their home.

@MPH

I read your comments about Libertarians in the news thread claiming to support Trump over what they felt was over reach.

What do those people think about the treatment of Hunter Biden? It seems to me as an outsider that a Libertarian would be against his prosecution.

Yet I don't hear much about people over there being outraged.

To be honest,  I haven’t really spoken to anyone about him.

I  would  imagine the response would be that it’s ok to prosecute him because he’s a democrat  ( even if those would not be the exact words used)

Anyone had to do an Experian background check for a job? I’ve had to submit one this week and as I’ve been technically self-employed since September, I’m struggling to show evidence(the company I’ve worked for were happy to give me a reference but apparently this isn’t enough). Been in a work placement since my MA, so only worked a few paid days a month to pay for stuff. According to HMRC, it’s gonna take about a month to sort, delaying my new job.

Taylor Swift starting her 17-venue UK tour which will no doubt make an absolutely ludicrous amount of money.

Been thinking about the unreal level of hype that she commands, and I find myself unable to figure exactly why she has such a massive, dedicated fanbase and has pulled in the unprecedented money and fame that she has. As far as I can tell, she doesn't do anything musically or in terms of showmanship that is better or unique compared to other artists...so why?

Is it just a massive triumph of whoever has been on her marketing team? Or is it something else?

Started a temporary job and three people told me in the first week something along the lines of how much they like LCFC, how we're everyone's second team, how the league win will never grow old. I think being exposed to all the tiresome football banter online you can lose sight of the fact that amongst more casual fans in the wider population we are still very respected and well liked for what we achieved.

Absolutely.

In the last few weeks I've played golf with Oxford, Millwall, Liverpool and WHam fans who all perk up and get chatty when I say I'm a Leicester fan. They all rave about our PL win and are genuinely happy for us.

I think most football fans in general enjoyed the ride with us and they know it'll never happen again.

It’s amazing isn’t it! As far as I can tell she’s no different to other pop stars, but her bandwagon just keeps rolling, I was even looking for tickets to see her at the San Siro!

I think I understand the con job going on at wrexham with the Hollywood dudes. They are slick marketeers and can make simple adult minds truly believe that they are ‘one of us’ and really care about wrexham. A heavily edited reality tv show later and the bandwagon is rolling.
Maybe Tay Tay has that young female market cornered in a similar way? They really believe they are the same? No idea but it’s a great social experiment

Well, Wrexham have had successive promotions so the walk is being walked there too, I guess.

WRT Swift, it really is a fascinating social experiment. Still wondering if it's only down to the marketing.

Swift interacts and identifies with her fans in a way others don't. She gives a lot to them online and makes them feel identified. She also seems like a genuinely nice person and someone who cares about issues, and is willing to speak out and stand up for them.

I think that is what does it for most of her fans. She's someone who people want to be and feel good about supporting.

She's also obviously hugely musically talented compared to her peers. She writes, plays and performs all her own songs live. I'll always have massive respect for artists who do that, compared to the glorified karaoke singers that make up 90% of the industry's manufactured solo artists out there.

I can't see how she stands out from a few other leaders of the field in that way - at least to the magnitude of recognition she receives by comparison, anyway.

But I can see what you mean about her actually giving two shits about her fanbase and that having an effect.
