Someone should be alert to the possibility of it going across goal but I do personally think a professional footballer who's played in the Premier League and in Europe should probably be hitting the target on their strong foot from this position

A still doesn’t show the reality of the position, if memory serves he’s also in the air and with forward momentum the angle was tighter than that still suggests no?

A deer in headlights like he was on more than 1 occasion when he kept Salah quiet?

You’re changing the goalposts. You indicated there were 20 better left back/sides he wouldn’t get into. Now you’re giving others a pass because they haven’t been against Fatawu!

He’s an ok championship player. No great, not awful and relegation/league 1 standard.

I can’t stand when people make atupid exaggerated comments to fit agendas against certain players.

But but Salah... but but he's an ok championship player....

I'm sorry to say, I truly think you are utterly dillusional or a close relative of his. If the later, I feel for you, because I can imagine it's really hard to stick up for him. Great person. Shite footballer. The end.

Just to challenge this, that’s one thing the club have got right over the years. The use of our academy has yielded a great return and the club have tended to put players in at the right time.

It’s the classic at the moment, Nelson being overrated as he’s out of the team.

Always happens!

Happens all the time, not just with academy lads.
Bad game by Faes? Start Okoli

Bad game by Okoli?  Start Faes

Bad game by Stephy? Start Monga

Bad game….

Nelson is on a seemingly very typical trajectory, slightly derailed by his injury at Oxford. Why he did not go out on loan again is a valid question, but I suspect (as we were hearing) Faes was close to leaving but it feel through.

I have never met the guy lol

I just get tired of negative hyperbole. I will call things as they are. He’s a bang average championship player. Good enough for where we want to be? No. Typical of where we are going. Unfortunately yes.

As I said, to say he is league 1 or relegation fodder indicates there are 20 odd lefts backs in this league right now, who would get into our side. That itself is a very worrying yet delusional thought.

He absolutely needs upgrading with someone better and more suited to our needs and style. But we can say this without shitting all over the guy.

This isn't the place for reasonable, well balanced assessments like this mate.

I’m glad he was coached out of forward passing after the fa cup win, otherwise instead of passing to Tielemans he’d have trapped the ball and gone back to a CB.

I like Thomas but that position is a weak link along with our other defenders.

And strikers?

Based on the still image and the keeper standing in the middle of the goal he should be scoring near post in that huge space.

Instead it looks like he tried to cross from his body position and technique but excuted it poorly.

Yeah I accept it's not quite the tap-in it looks when paused, and like most actions in football it's almost certainly a lot more difficult than it looks, but it is nonetheless a chance from about six yards about and he's missed the target despite watching the cross all the way onto his foot and being completely unmarked. It sort of looks like he hits it with his studs - the thing that stood out to me about him when he first broke through was his technique and composure. Not only has he not really developed at all physically, those qualities aren't really in evidence much these days either.

Again, it's immaterial if either Bobby or Daka don't just stand there watching it, or if we created more chances and thus could afford to miss one or two. Still, I do fancy he should probably not put the ball wider of the goal than it is when he receives it.

I agree that Thomas is one of the more limited fullbacks in The Championship. I don’t think it’s delusional to state that. Two failed loans at Boro and Sheff U back that view up tbh.

This was done to James Justin last year. Seems there always needs to be a scapegoat.

Due to the way he kicks the ball, which is pretty much always a backward curved hook with the inside of his left boot, he would’ve had to had his body facing the steward I’ve circled to get that shot on target. Never known another footballer with such a strange technique.

Can’t include the Sheffield United loan in fairness in my opinion. They were in the PL for starters and were absolute whipping boys. Didn’t they get to nearly Christmas before winning a game? And that wasn’t on Thomas.

He then moved on loan to Middlesbrough the second half of that season didn’t he and that is where you’d have expected more from him and to really stake his claim. They were quite settled at this level. I suspect though after relegation with us and the nightmare scenario in the first half of that season at Blades, he was just shot mentally. He could have done with a full season loan at a Championship club in my view.

Personally I think there’s a lot of water under the bridge here now. From his point of view, the new contract whilst offering him financial security isn’t really a positive career move. I think he’d have been better off having a clean break and trying to find a home elsewhere. I’m not defending him in saying he is good enough for us, purely adding balance and things aren’t black and white.

You could put him in many other Championship sides and he may be just fine

with the right manager and players around. Lets be fair, we are an absolutely basket case and have been since he first broke through.

Ironically I think I may have been one who said that about him . I am generally quite patient and give players many chances before judging them!

Rare of me to do mind, particularly those who seem to work hard and care at least, like Justin, Thomas, even Daka. I usually save my dislike for those who genuinely don’t give a shit, like Faes, Vestergaard, Soumare. Even Ayew and BDR, I don’t want them here but don’t dislike them. I am very indifferent and they just aren’t the type of signings I want to see here.

I'm probably more critical of Thomas than most on here. I think he's shite. But it's infuriating to see people freeze framing and focusing on that late chance.

Firstly, it has been whipped in at about 80mph by Hamza, so a still image will never do the difficulty of the chance justice.

Secondly, it isn't his inability to arrive late and slot winners that's the problem here.

Let's start small, y'know. Maybe reduce the number of times he boots the ball out for a throw in or a corner from 5 times a match to 1 or 2? Or, I don't know, maybe have him win a couple of 50:50s?

I don't care that he can't control a fizzed ball into the net from a tight angle. I do care that he's built like a school boy and is apparently scared of having the ball.

Had a poor game last night but there is a good player in there .

He's reflective of the whole team, in that every player on the pitch is capable of having an outstanding game at times, but we need all players to consistently have these games at the same time and not the occasional one occasionally and be sh*t the rest of the time.

good player in there? like really

LIKE REALLY

if he was that good a player he wouldnt have been sent back from both Sheff U and Boro,

some just have to admit he is not very good at all, in fact I'd say he's lower championship to top league 1 standard

well Thomas was shit when he came into the team last season too, so this kinda falls on its arse

I like the lad and really want him to do well but ****ing hell he's played 99 league games now and still looks like a teenager. His decision making is awful and he's one of the least composed defenders i've ever seen.

The problem is that Kristiansen is exactly the same. I think a striker and a left back is urgently needed in Jan.
