...you just get the feeling that Rodgers does not see this as a part of the way he wishes to play!!!

The beautiful game does not require a big man upfront or lumping balls in the box needs giving up valuable practise time being wasted.

  Not much time is being allocated to this part of our game.

He at the very least could try and get Kolo Toure in coaching them how to defend them, we are one of the worst teams for conceding set piece goals and crosses from open play. This has been a huge decline in 2020 as we were very solid prior to that.

Ever since Maddison went on Soccer AM it seems that because he looked slightly alright in trainers he must be our set piece taker.

 

For whatever reason he seems to pull rank in all of our set piece taking, which I'm surprised at in this data driven game. He's utter dross and most of his corner/freekicks are something from a U7's team.

 

...but because of the Soccer AM rubbish all commentators think he's Beckham 

 

Hearing "he's usually so dangerous from these areas" boils my piss as anyone who watches him constantly will see he's so inconsistent and just basically bad at set pieces.

You've said it yourself, the game is data driven. Do you really think if the data wasn't pointing to the fact that Maddison is actually quite good at set pieces he would be taken them?

We've got some real threat in Evans and Fofana who look good in the air. I think the delivery is only half the problem, we need better movement when attacking set pieces. Look at how good Chelsea's movement was today at corners.

No, he's rubbish. I think he'll be taken off them soon.

Not scored a free kick in 14 months and think he's got 1 assist from a set piece since Villa away a year ago tomorrow. He was once an exceptional set piece taker but the last year has been an abomination for him.

Personally when I watch corners I don't see him doing too much different in regards to delivery. My view is what has changed is the players who are attacking his set pieces. I've said in a previous post I think fofana and Evans are very poor in this area, soyuncu I can't remember looking a threat. The first two players mentioned have certainly had the opportunity created for them to score recently but have not been clinical. 

 

In regards to direct free kicks, it could just be an unlucky dry spell. Even the best free kick takers in the world will score 3 or 4 a season (Maddison has done this before), so it could be a case of just being unlucky in positioning of free kicks and goal keepers in that 14 month period. Plus it's worth noting that Maddison has missed a lot of football over the last 14 months. 

 

My view is that things are being over analysed and conclusions jumped to too quickly. (I promise I'm not Maddisons Mum )

Are we zonal these days? Only, I couldn't be bothered to look. If we concede a corner or a free kick in a dangerous position I'm usually hiding behind the sofa.

I'd suggest a combination of things. Maddison's delivery has become awfully consistent with not beating the first man. Having said that, there's been several occassions where we've produced a brilliant set piece and missed an easy header. Evans is particularly guilty of this, as is Fofana after last week.

You can get away with a not so dominant keeper if you have towering centre halves.

 

Jonny Evans might be the poorest centre half I have ever known in terms of heading a football.

Many a time this season we seem to waste any advantage we may have in being awarded one!

Can't remember the last time we scored from a corner.

It's usually taken and ends up near the near post where it is headed away by the opposition.

Do we not practice these on the training ground?

 

I could say the same about free kicks, it;s not very often we seem to score from them.
