The only player I recognised in that Leicester Mercury photo of the 1963 Cup Final team being introduced to the Duke of Edinburgh was the Mighty String.

Excuse my ignorance, but did Rodney Fern play? You can't miss that barnet lol

 

Me and my brother always thought Colin Appleton looked like Reg Hollis from The Bill lol

 

A great side back then, they made my dad fall in love with City, which, in turn led to me being a fanatic.

On a side note, a little bit later, we had Jon Sammels, who became a local driving instructor. 

 

I begged my mum to let him teach me, but she wouldn't have it. 

 

Was anyone taught to drive by him? 

 

Would have loved to hear some stories.

The late Rodney Fern didn't join City until 1967.

I spotted Jon Sammels driving around the Saffron Lane area numerous times when he was a driving instructor.

Colin Appleton was skipper of the City when I first started going to Filbert Street. As a kid I was fascinated by the roundness of his ears more than anything else. 

His brother Dave coached a team I played for back in the early 80s. 

His ears were pretty unremarkable.
