Happy birthday, Danny Simpson! 🏆

Danny, who celebrates his birthday today (Monday), spoke to Club Historian John Hutchinson last month about his career in football. Simpson started his professional career at his boyhood club, Manchester United, and later won promotion to the Premier League with Sunderland, Newcastle United and Queens Park Rangers.

Sounds like he quite rightly regrets not slipping into a Fuchs/Big Wes role.

I always thought that a RCB in a back three would be his best position, but alas it was never to be...

Happy Birthday Danny

I wonder sometimes whether DS would have made it in today’s era; where every full back has to be almost as talented as a winger. In defensive terms only he is probably our best ever right back.

Got so much time for Simpson. He did wrong in his early life, but Leicester City was his redemption arc and boy did he take it! You can tell he thinks very fondly of us, and the feeling is mutual. This is a guy after all that sat in the stands at games and sang songs with the fans!

I could see him returning to the club in the future as a guest on LCFC TV, or perhaps as a loan ambassador or such. And he would be more than welcome back at the club IMO.

If he was coming through today he would have been converted to a CB. He doesn't have the speed or attacking talent to make it as a Premier League right back in 2020. He would have been turned into a good competent CB though.

Must have been tough for him watching Ricky get a long term injury and thinking if only he was around to help, as we slid down the table post lockdown due to defensive injuries... would we have made top 4 with him?

....football goes in cycles and we move to new systems in our play and structure within the teams!!!

Having a lack of pace should not preclude the need for someone proficient as a defender and not to be driven to follow blindly in a way that forces you to discard quality in search of an idea fashioned by elite managers.

Football with all teams playing a generic game will only lead to dull games and a massive turn off regarding viewing figures. I would love to see enough diversity within the game in respect of style of play.

Signed back till the end of the season. Hes even eligible to play for us in the FACup of need be. What a story that would be.

Welcome back to a real leicester city legend.

Is that due to injuries or more we're helping him find match fitness?

I’m sure. But the club didn’t offer him a contract so he didn’t have much of a choice.

I love simmo! But he’d get absolutely ripped to shreds in our system lol

Danny Simpson talks treasured items.

Had no idea about the individual trophies.

Always like to hear him interviewed, absolutely appreciates how special his time with us was, and the remarkable things achieved that team achieved.

What he did to his partner was shocking, but - within reason - everyone deserves forgiveness, as we all screw up by definition of being mortal. He grabbed his chance here and, despite the best efforts of the puritan inside me, I wish him him nothing but good luck and will always be grateful our perspectives crossed 👍

Funny Thing is through the History of football, players who have been quick have not always been automatically the better players.

Those who have lacked pace often turn out to be above the average...

Simpson in his Time at Leicester, was One of the best back players, who covered in any single game across the whole bline, when others drove forward.

Because he & Ranieri  knew he wasnt the fastest, between them they seem to understand his Positioning strengths.

Some modern fans, Don t understand, that you can be a Great National Top Level club footballer, But just Not at International level, something I believe all English International managers got wrong, & unlike some  I like Southgate,

but he also over Selects individuals who haven t quite got that bit extra...

Simpson ,like Albrighton IMO was One of those Type of  examples, plus often underrated on FT-forum.

Top players & should be highly Rated, maybe deserved a selection, but  not quite that International Full ticket.

Thats Why I believe...Grealish ,Rice derseved, and used the Early chances ,

James ,Chilwell,Barnes,Maddison  still deserve, those Chances & time will tell,

Mount was worth the Crack ,still might do well, but if a choice,I prefer Foden.

A few months can change careers & stories..Simpson can Stand tall , his months stretched longer into a decent career & story.
