ZINCHENKO

Wouldn't be averse to this if Fuchs is going in summer.

Thomas would still see playing time if we're competing in lots of competitions and gives us ample depth in FB/WB positions - Ricardo, Castagne, Justin, Thomas, Zinchenko...

Would he be our first Ukrainian?

I can't say I've ever been particularly wowed by him but he seems a tidy player and a versatile one at that which is handy, especially if we're to continue competing on multiple fronts.

Zinch on the left, Castange on the right, Ricardo sold in the summer.

Unfortunately. If Ricardo gets back to his best before the end of the season he'll probably be the next one to go to fund our transfers. There's nobody like Ricardo in full flight.

He's not exclusively a LB though. He started as an #10 and that's what he was signed as. It was Guardiola who turned him into a LB because he likes to play inverted WB's.

He's never actually played LB for Ukraine. Depending on their opposition, he will either play as one of two #8's in a 433 or part of a double pivot in a 4231.

With this, he would be great back up for Castagne at LB, Tielemans in a DLP role. A replacement for Choudhury as a B2B CM and even cover for Maddison or Praet further up the pitch.

I think he could do all these roles at a high level and is still relatively young at 24. I really hope this link is true. Would be a cracking signing and strengthens the squad in numerous ways.

He's a solid player, his versatility means that he wouldn't exclusively take the LB or LWB spot and mean the likes of Thomas never gets a game but it seems to be too tempting for us as a club to go for versatile players. I can see the reason we would be linked, he's almost the carbon copy of a left sided Marc Albrighton and he'd be a decent squad addition but as has been the case for a while now, for us to improve further we need 1-2 new players of real quality in the attacking positions, whether that be a striker, winger or another dynamic attacking midfielder. We aren't awash with money or spaces in the squad so a signing like Zinchenko just doesn't seem a huge priority to me.

There is something to be said for picking up a player who hasn't quite made the breakthrough expected at a massive club.  Ings is doing alright at Saints for example.  This guy is young and obviously has something about him.  We have to be succession planning if our model is continuing to be sell a star player every year or two to fund 2-3 incoming who up the standard of the squad.  As we need a quality striker, which might cost £30M+ we need to be bringing in double that for someone imo, so we can backfill and add the quality.

This is where I predominantly see him for us. He has the creative qualities needed to control play from deep but was ultimately moved to LB because he's no mug defensively either.

It's worth bearing in mind that Guardiolas FB's play almost as CM's. I dont think it's such a stretch for him to offer more than Praet here, and I'm a fan of Des. I certainly see him offering more than Albrighton at this stage.

It would also afford us to utilise JJ more as a RCB which I personally feel is his strongest position.

I do agree though that a striker should be a priority. Milik and Zinchenko please Mr.Rudkin.

Good player and not just a left back (in fact I'm pretty sure that's not his preferred position).

That said, he doesn't specialise in any of the departments we most need to improve. Cant see it happening, and he'd cost a fair bit.

Yep exactly this.

I can't see us coming here because just like at Man City, he would not be first choice. For his own career he should move somewhere where he's a first team player every week. That said he's the sort of player I could see re-emerging in a few seasons time after being an important part of a team somewhere else, similar to Zaha at Palace. Didn't work out for him at Man U, but now shown he's a very effective Premier League player.

I've always thought he was good. I'd be happy with this signing.

Like others have said it frees up Ricardo for a big money summer transfer. I love the guy but our policy of selling one big player per year has been working so well I think it might be the right time for Ricky P.
