Popular Post shailen Posted 1 May Popular Post Posted 1 May Him and Chilwell were better than Trent and Robertson in our first full season under Rodgers. If he didn't get injured in the game before Covid I reckon he'd be a different level altogether. Wish him the best and no hard feelings. 15

But yeah, can't believe Barca, PSG or Juve didn't sign him when he did his ACL. What idiots. But we did, four year contract on a reported £80k per week straight after the injury. Mugs. 1
Danizen Posted 1 May Posted 1 May (edited) I like him and he obviously deserves recognition but, coming at the end if our worst ever season, does anyone else think a guard of honour is a bit much? Edited 1 May by Danizen

A very good player and for 6 months he was probably as good as anyone full back in the prem, but its a very small prime tbf. Somebody fairly unremarkable was keeping him out for Portugal. I want to say Cedric Soares? 2

We gave that to him after he came back. But yes, a silly deal in hindsight though I don't think you'd have imagined he'd had dropped off as much as he did

Popular Post Buzzell Posted 1 May Popular Post Posted 1 May A proper professional, very loyal, comes across as a nice bloke, brilliant footballer, everything you want from a player. At one point he was up there as one of the best right backs in the league and I’m sure he could have go on to bigger and better things if it wasn’t for his injury. He came back as a different player but he always gave his all on the pitch It’s sad to see him go but the time has come for him to part ways and I wish him all the best for wherever and whatever he does after LCFC. It was a pleasure to watch him play for us. 🦊 💙 🇵🇹 4 1
Guest Posted 1 May Posted 1 May At his peak a genuinely outstanding footballer and I'd agree there was a point when he was up there with the very best in the world in his position. A sorry way for him to go and of course as the captain of this shambles he's by no means blameless but I think I'll still ultimately remember him fondly as one of my favourite players in recent years. The early days when he'd just replaced Simpson were very funny - people absolutely bewildered by the sight of a right back crossing the halfway line and running with the ball. "Definitely not a right back".
Popular Post FoxinNotts Posted 1 May Popular Post Posted 1 May 48 minutes ago, inckley fox said: I mean, even in my time, he's not the best right back we've had. In recent years he's been one of the worst, while for a short time early doors, yes, he was very good. But come on. He's literally our worst ever captain, and the right back in our worst ever team. Character wise, you listen to him and it's easy to see why we're in such a state. A miserably lacklustre, lily-livered individual who has long since wanted out. Literally one of the worst performers in the worst side in our nearly-150 year history. To say he's a better RB than the world class or PL-winning players (who never suffered back to back relegations, and actually won things) we've had in that position, from Adam Black in the 1920s to those in living memory, is one hell of a stretch. As much as Leicester fans, for a very short period of time (when we weren't actually competing for accolades), argued that he was world class, the truth was that he couldn't even establish himself in the Portugal squad ahead of Cancelo or Dalot. He's one of the few common denominators in our post-2021 downfall, and when I hear him speak, I can see why. We got a good year and a half out of him, but replaced him before the FA Cup win (half a decade ago). Please, let's not delude ourselves that anyone in this current batch of dossers is a club legend. It just makes LCFC as an entity seem even s****er than it actually is. Wow. Quite the tirade. I'm 46. He's the best right back (pre his injury) I've seen play for us. In my opinion. Who do you suggest is better than him (at his peak) to have played for us, since 1979? 9

TeamRocket Posted 1 May Posted 1 May Sad to see him go, felt like he was one of the few that gave a dung, but its probably for the best to get this reset going and wage bill going down 1
Nods Posted 1 May Posted 1 May 4 hours ago, Claridge said: At his best he was Easily one of the best if not the best fullback i have seen in 55yrs supporting lcfc I don't disagree, he was great. But his weakness, if he had one when at his peak, was in tiny details like not making a foul at the right time, not kicking the ball out of play when it would make sense to, or sometimes making the wrong decision. Never something I'd mention at the time because he was great. I'm more bemoaning our lack of intelligence as a group and the fact he's ended up in the role of a leader, unfortunately says a lot about our lack of them.
Scotch Posted 1 May Posted 1 May Love him, will always think fondly of him but I'm not sad in The slightest that he's going. He hasnt offered anything for some time now. 1
moseeds Posted 1 May Posted 1 May Comes across as a great sincere man in his goodbye video, and always tried his best on the pitch. Nobody could suggest otherwise. Time and injuries caught up with him in the end but I'm glad I got to watch him at his best. Cheers Riccy! 2

Lesta2014 Posted 1 May Posted 1 May Sad how it’s ended for him here, injuries, decline in form and 2 relegations in a row. Won’t forget the best of him pre covid when he was joy to watch and thank you for the goal at PSV!
HarryDee8 Posted 1 May Posted 1 May Good servant to the club, but should have been given a rolling 1 year contract in the last 2 seasons. Not his fault, but rudders is a fool for giving over 30s long term contracts

I spent an evening with a very smug Derby fan and seem to have taken it out on Ricardo. Quite a rabid rant, wasn't it? We all have the capacity to surprise ourselves. At his peak he was one of the finest - more cultured than Simpson, obviously - so I'm not sure what came over me. If I'd been drunk it would have made more sense. I wish him the very best. Even if he was an exceptionally crap captain, and even if that interview he gave the other day wound me up to the point of distraction. Edit: regarding best RB, the poster who mentioned Pontus has an excellent point. Like you, I'm 46, so we both remember his heyday. You might even remember Marc North... Edited 1 May by inckley fox 2
inckley fox Posted 2 May Posted 2 May 2 hours ago, FoxinNotts said: Was better for others than he was for us Ooh, I think you're wrong there. Every Forest fan I knew swore he was crap. He came to us at 28, give or take, and had quite the resurgence. He wasn't better than Ricardo, of course. But he did score a beauty vs Watford in, I don't know, 1990. And won player of the year twice. And led us out at Wembley in 1994.
SafewayFox Posted 2 May Posted 2 May I loved Ricardo like most but I can’t separate the pre-injury Riccy to the one who comes out as Captain with absolute weak waffle. If he had an ounce of leadership quality, we surely don’t get relegated in such a bang average league. Our downfall is way more than one player but the lack of standards/effort from the players needs to be scrutinized so much more.
OadbyBlue Posted 2 May Posted 2 May Was world class but has declined to about the level of the rest of the dross around him. One of the few likeable players in the current squad and without injuries he’d probably have had a good career at Man City/Barca or someone and got us another 50 million in the bank.
