lol Things to tend to read very differently if you ignore a few key words.

But yeah, can't believe Barca, PSG or Juve didn't sign him when he did his ACL. What idiots.

But we did, four year contract on a reported £80k per week straight after the injury. Mugs.

I like him and he obviously deserves recognition but, coming at the end if our worst ever season, does anyone else think a guard of honour is a bit much?

He wasn't even the best in Portugal.

A very good player and for 6 months he was probably as good as anyone full back in the prem, but its a very small prime tbf.

Somebody fairly unremarkable was keeping him out for Portugal. I want to say Cedric Soares?

Again, slight difference in detail. We gave that to him after he came back. But yes, a silly deal in hindsight though I don't think you'd have imagined he'd had dropped off as much as he did

It feels like the club are using him leaving as a distraction to be honest

I feel like this was a Riccy thing not a club thing. A chair, a camera and a tripod, a mic, no script. If it was a club thing it would be well overproduced

At his peak a genuinely outstanding footballer and I'd agree there was a point when he was up there with the very best in the world in his position. A sorry way for him to go and of course as the captain of this shambles he's by no means blameless but I think I'll still ultimately remember him fondly as one of my favourite players in recent years.

The early days when he'd just replaced Simpson were very funny - people absolutely bewildered by the sight of a right back crossing the halfway line and running with the ball. "Definitely not a right back".

Wow. Quite the tirade. I'm 46. He's the best right back (pre his injury) I've seen play for us. In my opinion.

Who do you suggest is better than him (at his peak) to have played for us, since 1979?

Gary Mills

I don't disagree, he was great. But his weakness, if he had one when at his peak, was in tiny details like not making a foul at the right time, not kicking the ball out of play when it would make sense to, or sometimes making the wrong decision.

Never something I'd mention at the time because he was great. I'm more bemoaning our lack of intelligence as a group and the fact he's ended up in the role of a leader, unfortunately says a lot about our lack of them.

Love him, will always think fondly of him but I'm not sad in The slightest that he's going. He hasnt offered anything for some time now.

Comes across as a great sincere man in his goodbye video, and always tried his best on the pitch. Nobody could suggest otherwise. Time and injuries caught up with him in the end but I'm glad I got to watch him at his best. Cheers Riccy! :appl:

Sad how it’s ended for him here, injuries, decline in form and 2 relegations in a row. Won’t forget the best of him pre covid when he was joy to watch and thank you for the goal at PSV!

Good servant to the club, but should have been given a rolling 1 year contract in the last 2 seasons. Not his fault, but rudders is a fool for giving over 30s long term contracts

Ricardo was superb pre injury. However in my opinion Kaamark was better

Danny Simpson, maybe? I don't know.

But but but... I should apologise for the tirade. I spent an evening with a very smug Derby fan and seem to have taken it out on Ricardo. Quite a rabid rant, wasn't it? We all have the capacity to surprise ourselves.

At his peak he was one of the finest - more cultured than Simpson, obviously - so I'm not sure what came over me. If I'd been drunk it would have made more sense. I wish him the very best. Even if he was an exceptionally crap captain, and even if that interview he gave the other day wound me up to the point of distraction.

Edit: regarding best RB, the poster who mentioned Pontus has an excellent point. Like you, I'm 46, so we both remember his heyday.

You might even remember Marc North...

Was better for others than he was for us

Ooh, I think you're wrong there. Every Forest fan I knew swore he was crap. He came to us at 28, give or take, and had quite the resurgence.

He wasn't better than Ricardo, of course. But he did score a beauty vs Watford in, I don't know, 1990. And won player of the year twice. And led us out at Wembley in 1994.

I loved Ricardo like most but I can’t separate the pre-injury Riccy to the one who comes out as Captain with absolute weak waffle.

If he had an ounce of leadership quality, we surely don’t get relegated in such a bang average league.

Our downfall is way more than one player but the lack of standards/effort from the players needs to be scrutinized so much more.

Was world class but has declined to about the level of the rest of the dross around him.

One of the few likeable players in the current squad and without injuries he’d probably have had a good career at Man City/Barca or someone and got us another 50 million in the bank.
