If we could play Barnes or Ünder up front and play a front 3 of Barnes, Ünder and Albrighton that would seem like the best option given the current form of the players on paper

Not sure how it would actually work as a system on the pitch though.

I really don't understand the point of this thread. Ayoze Pérez is not a centre forward.

Imagine playing Andy King up top.

People are so binary its painful - Ayoze and Kelechi were never, ever, not in a million years, competing for the same role

Kel and Vardy, sure, Perez is different (Does not fit with us really, and likely needs to be sold) but to beat him as not being a striker says more about the accuser than him

We need to find a way of getting Ayoze & Perez into the same team.

How the **** is Perez winning this. Sums up the majority of our fan base, preferring to start up top someone who isn’t a striker to an actual striker.

How many votes does he have? I suspect it's not entirely representative in the wider scheme of things.

FWIW I didn't vote, because it struck me as a bit pointless and divisive.

I think people are remembering Iheanachos game against Villa at home, where he was absolutely awful.

Looked like a lost sheep playing upfront on his own.

Absolutely pointless, not a bit, a lot. Neither. Interesting last night v Fulham, Perez seemed a bit more integrated with the team and actually smiled once with Nacho. Two outcasts together? He was better last night but still pretty bad and hopefully BR saw something at last that led to his coming off, and the whole sorry episode is ended. Iheanacho at last showed something.

I'm not divided between the two..Perez will never make a PL player and Nacho looked lazy. A press by Nacho is a caress . At one point last night in the second half a high ball came to him from our defence and he could n't be bothered to jump. Nearer the end he had the ball on his own one on one, Vardy might have had a 30% or higher chance of scoring, nacho prodded it forward and took no further interest. I abstain. In fairness he took his goal well and contributed, just not enough.

Presumably Nacho will find a buyer here. For his own sake Perez should be sold in Spain or France.

I think sir, with respect, you suffer very badly with cognitive bias.

Perez was being picked as a striker over Kel - many people (myself included) were baffled by this, but to my astonishment many actually wanted Perez to play upfront. I though it was actually a good poll to hold and it shows how much fans see things differently! People were commenting on Perez as a striker because he was being picked....as a striker!

I was bloody happy to see Kel upfront again last night and thought Perez did far better in a supporting role

As the saying goes, one swallow does not a summer make. Its a really poor choice. One who scores a goal every 450 minutes or one who just doesn't tend to score unless its a hattrick in a one sided game. Strikers are supposed to score regularly so neither has fulfilled the role. May as well add Ndidi into the mix as he has as many goals as Natcho int he league.

Not totally Perez was picked yo play as a goal scoring 9, and always assumed Perez was deployed as a withdrawn forward offering the out balls to cutting in wide forwards, i.e.; Barnes and Under.

Firmly believe this approach could work, but no doubt it would take an amount of work equivalent to what we have spent in getting to where we are with the lone 9 who has primary goal scoring responsibilities

However, I very much enjoyed watching Kelechi last night, and I am only too happy to be considered wrong and that a more Vardy type role could be retained with a more suitable person, Kelechi in this instance.

Or Big Matty E?  Remember that turn and finish against Chelsea? Poetry. Sometimes strange things work. Other times they’re just strange.

Absolutely.

We used Walshy as a battering ram up front too. Arguably, Little's route one approach was quite conducive to the latter, but under O'Neill, Matt Elliot's physicality often belied the fact that he was actually quite skillful with the ball at his feet. He would have made a good CB in the contemporary game with the emphasis upon playing out from the back.

I remember Stevie Walsh plating up front, and a good job he made of it too. :appl:

Just mentioned it in my previous post. Long ball route 1 football, requiring a battering ram up front. Very different to our current requirements.

As you said, he didn't half do it well though.
