Probably should have responded to the person who made the original point then :dunno:

I’m not sure I would bother to change it if I had the time again.

Why don’t you go and continue your little weird game with @The Horse's Mouth? I’ll try not to help him out in future for fear of you wrath.

Reckon it's to dispute the result?

Not a weird game. If you're coming here to discuss F1 then great, it makes it a much better thread and forum. If you're just here to call people idiots like he is, then it makes it a bit crap imo. Is he fan of F1 or a fan of calling people names for making a reasonable post?

No, the Senna / Prost incidents were much worse.

Senna Prost and Hill spring to mind but at least they are incidents where you can have a debate about driver actions. I suppose Senna 1989 one is pretty contentious with the DQ.

This feels much worse in that it's an external factor outside either team or driver of both competitors plus unfair decision making such that I don't trust the integrity of the sport.

Right now feel like giving the sport a break, maybe I'll be back watching by the new season or if the new rules are excellent.

Not ideal but if there’s any suggestion the race director changed the rules during the race because Red Bull bullied him into it, then it needs to be looked at.

Not really into F1, but watched this today. For no real good reason, I think Hamilton is a massive bellend so was routing for Verstapen to win,

However, it really seems in their desperation for a "grandstand finish" they've shot themselves in the bollocks somewhat.

What would normally happen in a standard run of the mill F1 race in that situation?

Probably finish under the safety car.

The rules state that all cars are "Required" to unlap themselves. If that happened, the safety car would have definitely entered the final lap still on the track, meaning they would have to have finished under the safety car with no overtakes, and Lewis would have won. It would have been a shit race but given the fact Lewis was in a different league to Verstappen today I could have accepted that.
Even with Lewis on much older tyres before the safety car, Max was not going to catch him today.

Take the race in isolation, this is what should have happened.

The occasion has clouded Masi's judgement instead.

He won't be anywhere near F1 next season.

At the end of the day, Masi has fully taken it upon himself to create conditions to allow for a final lap shootout.  Contrary to multiple laws/guidelines and without consideration for other drivers on the grid.

IF the race had instead been red flagged with both drivers on fresh rubber or if Hamilton was on the same tyres as Verstappen then MAYBE I could see the point (although that still would have been unfair to Mercedes considering their absolute dominance over the race), however Masi must have SURELY realised Hamilton was a dead duck against Verstappen brand spanking new soft tyres vs Hamiltons 30 lap old Mediums.  It wasn't a contest.

As has been said elsewhere, it was like winning a game of football 10-0 at school and them someone shouts next goal wins.  But further to that the losing opposition brings on a fresh Ronaldo.  Grossly unfair.

Mercedes and Hamilton were borderline perfect today, some might argue that they should have pitted but then they (rightly) assumed the race was going to end under a safety car and that would have handed Verstappen the title anyway.

The FIA are in huge trouble and I think they would look to settle this ASAP to stop it going all the way to Paris where the entire sport will be dragged through the mud.

Potential solution.  Race voided.  Masi hauled in front of the worlds media to explain his "decision", apologise to Hamilton and Mercedes, and "offer" his immediate resignation.  Fans/Sponsers refunded by Liberty.  Laws/guidelines immediately tightened up for next season.  Verstappen still World Champion due to race win count back.  Mercedes/Hamilton the moral winners.

This solution might end up being cheaper/less damaging for the FIA in the long run.

I don’t know! I wasn’t following it with any history of the thread.  I was just responding to what I thought was a question of why we shouldn’t restrict pitting during safety cars.
I’ll make my own mind up about people and their contributions in my own time.

Leave me out of it, I’m here to talk F1.

Not pre judging people then??

Which would be massively unfair to Hamilton.

But also Verstappen? He’s raced his race based on the instructions given to him by the FIA. The fault lies at the door of the stewards/race director.
