Always get p****d off with the national anthem at the final for two reasons:-

1) The fairly recent trend to appoint an opera singer to lead it, with a range unlike 99.9 % of the people singing along unless they have a zip related accident. I maintain that they should announce two random fans' seat numbers one from each end and invite them to the pitch side to lead.

2) Maybe it's the acoustics of the stadium, maybe it's the quality of the tannoy, maybe it's the 17 pints of Stella at the Wembley Way Tavern but the crowds singing  ALWAYS get way way ahead of the music and it sounds like a dogs breakfast.

Yes I realize point 2 contradicts my suggestion in point 1 but anything would be better than it is at the moment.

Our fans always sing out of tune anyway. Here's to you Danny Drinkwater was the most monotone out of sync, out of tune mess I've ever heard in my life.

I don’t know the words to this or the national anthem. Why don’t they pick a song that everyone knows the words of if not the whole song at least the chorus? I would suggest ‘Angels’ by Robbie Williams.

I don't know the words to Angels and I'd bet there's plenty who don't. As for Abide with Me it's been around and sung at FA Cup finals long enough for people to have picked up  the words.

Wiki - Since the 1927 FA Cup Final between Arsenal and Cardiff City, the first and last verses of the hymn are traditionally sung at the FA Cup Final about 15 minutes before the kick-off of the match.[17] It has also been sung prior to the kick-off at every Rugby League Challenge Cup Final since 1929.[18]

Although I'm not convinced either are appropriate, one is religious based and the other represents the whole of the UK not England and it's the English FA Cup Final.

They say the national anthem but it's more the Great Britain anthem rather than the England anthem, we're just not allowed to have own anthem while Scotland and Wales are allowed to? I certainly won't be singing. Abide With Me I will quite happily but not GSTQ.

I've watched this about 5 times since full time. Very dusty in here.

Abide with me, fast falls the eventide
The darkness deepens Lord, with me abide
When other helpers fail and comforts flee
Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me
Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day
Earth's joys grow dim, its glories pass away
Change and decay in all around I see
O Thou who changest not, abide with me
I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless
Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness
Where is death's sting?
Where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if Thou abide with me
Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies
Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee
In life, in death, o Lord, abide with me
Abide with me, abide with me

Not to bring the mood down, but back in the olden days, when a member died at the Duncan Road working men's club, everyone would be asked to stand and they would play a scratchy version of Harry Secombe singing Abide With Me.

Anyway, enjoy your evening, we're in the cup final.  :scarf:

Just hope it's not Emeli Sande singing it at the Final. Abysmal last year.
