Man Utd now in discussions about their Brentford game. I don’t think it will be long before either reduced or no fans. Or an unplanned mid season break

Apparantly according to twitter they have 4 players out with covid. No excuse not to play if that's the case with the size of squad they have.

They have had to shut the training ground for 24 hours so it’s reckoned that’s enough reason on its own

Did anybody else see the proposed change of NUFC badge by the new owner?

Barely noticeable really 😐Polish_20211213_094002827.thumb.jpg.53290340866d3ca26d074ccd553d50d6.jpg

Is this for real? I assume the sword is in honour of Jamal Khashoggi?

Nice gesture if true. Unless if course it's a warning to others?

Wonder how many of the player cases coincide with being unvaccinated. I know vaccines don't mean you won't get it but genuinely interested

Just answered your own question then. Vaccines don't prevent you getting or spreading it. So being unvaccinated makes no difference to the contracting or spreading of the virus.

Like. Why? Why are you talking when you don't know what you're on about?

They reduce your chance of catching the virus and of developing symptoms which enhance transmission such as a cough. Vaccines don't eliminate transmission but they do reduce it.

But you are supposed to be wearing masks to prevent that aren't you? I saw very few people at the Newcastle match wearing masks . The Vaccine does NOT prevent you from catching it , it merely lessens the effects. You are the one who doesn't know what you are on about .

Have 2 weeks off. Get all the players together and just have a mad one. Let everyone catch it and then back to business.

So a bit like a chicken pox party for grown ups? Worked for Sweden. Until it went a bit tits up.

There is a slight flaw in your logic. You might as well say not smoking doesn’t prevent you getting lung cancer, so not smoking makes no difference to your getting lung cancer.

What a ridiculous analogy. So all those fans at the match on Sunday who have had both jabs and were not wearing masks among thousand's of other fans believed that they could neither catch it or pass it on ?

Forty-two Premier League players and staff tested positive for Covid-19 in the past week - the most recorded in the league over a seven-day period.

It is the highest number since 40 cases were reported in January.

That week, 2,295 tests were carried out, while 3,805 tests were done in the latest round from 6-12 December.

Brighton, Tottenham, Leicester, Manchester United and Aston Villa have all confirmed cases, with United's game at Brentford in doubt.

Previously, the most positive tests returned in a week this season was 16 from 16-22 August, when there were 3,060 tests.

On Thursday, following the introduction of new coronavirus rules in England, the Premier League told clubs to return to emergency measures, including social distancing and wearing masks.

A league statement on Monday said the frequency of lateral flow and PCR tests for players and staff would increase.

The statement added: "We will continue to work closely with the government, local authorities and supporter groups, while being responsive to any future changes to national or local guidance."

From Wednesday, fans will need to show proof of double vaccination or a negative test to attend sporting events with crowds of more than 10,000 people in England. This includes Premier League games.

Wrong - you are infectious for less time if you’re vaccinated  ….

I suspect you will see a lot more masks on Thursday - people will be more cautious ahead of Xmas ……

It absolutely can stop you getting it, it’s just not guaranteed.

Man Utd vs Brentford just been called off. How many of their players have tested positive for COVID?

The PL are letting them call this fixture off too easily. Only a small number of cases reported, they could easily fulfill the fixture.

Which would indicate it’s probably key players.

I believe  that the issue is that their cases are ‘live’ and ongoing - hence players and staff are becoming positive as already infected. To travel to London and go to a hotel and then a stadium is a big risk for all those that they will inevitably come into contact with.

Surely we’re days away from another mini break? Record cases among players coming into the busiest part of the season. Cases will spike after every game no doubt as players come into contact with one another who probably have it but at the very earliest stage where it’s not detectable yet.

Sucks for all involved but IMO would be the sensible thing to do. But I guess money will mean it’s the very last resort.

By closing Carrington and refusing to travel until speaking to the PL, they've kinda forced the game to be postponed
