I wonder if Chelsea really messed up and we’re say 3-0 down and we were at 0-0 Spurs would let us score. Although thinking about it Spurs seem to hate us recently, out of jealousy I assume.

Spurs need the win themselves, they have a slim chance of Uefa qualification

It's a big change in duties for him. He's been player/referee for a number of years.

I'm not really that knowledgeable as to whether it bring clubs some qudos or is just an unwelcome distraction, would clubs like Tottenham avoid it on purpose?

 

Every prediction I've seen has us for the win tomorrow but I can't see it being that easy, a reaction from Spurs, kane wanting golden boot, on the plus side it may leave them more open at the back.

Anyway, Spurs won’t turn up to this, Kane will play but he’s not risking an injury to be out out of the Euro’s. The bidding war will start for him during the Euro’s so that’s where he will be placing his efforts.

 

We will win this game, it’s just if there’s a twist elsewhere...

If Kane or the team wanted Kanethe golden boot they'd have battered a Villa team that's been on the beach for the past month.

 

I think Spurs are done for and I don't think any English team with top 6 aspirations wants to be part of this 3rd tier European competition. None will admit it of course but it just appears to be a hinderance to me.

Would anybody want to be in the Europa Conference? It's an awful idea. I can only see PL teams put out their 3rd teams for such an insignificant competition.

Maybe it's a sign of how far we've come, but I would be embarrassed if Leicester were in the Europa Conference, and I'd only want us to use our development squad for it if we were.

I was trying to weigh it up myself. If you've never played in Europe, or not in recent history, then it'd be a nice achievement. I can't imagine the pay out is that good, the level of competition will be fairly poor, it'll mess with the league schedule, it has literally no history. I just don't see why teams would want to be a part of it unless it was a once in a lifetime opportunity to play in europe.

Looking into it more...it appears you can start in champions league qualifying and lose in the 2nd qualifying round. You would then go into the europa league qualifying round. If you lose that then you go into the Europa Conference play off round

 

So you can't even throw a european tie easily these days.

Finally come to terms with finishing 5th so let’s just win ours and see what happens. Kane’s last game, Roy retiring, and Grealish back so it should be interesting.

I’ve accepted we have finished 5th and have Europa. Any different will bring a huge amount of joy but not any more disappointment.

Useful if you use 'were' rather than 'we are' - I had to read that three times before I realised what you're meaning was .

It's along the lines of the old intertoto cup I guess..a way of the 7th place team who rarely qualifies for European competition to have a go. I had a quick Wikipedia...west ham, villa, Newcastle and Fulham all had  a bash at the intertoto 

 

But, I have to admit it seems incredibly unfair that tier 1 nations have an entrant. I think the basic idea of a european competition giving, say, randomers like Hibs, Utrecht or Gothenburg a chance of winning a European trophy is massively cool. Like an FA Vase.
