Leicester remain ‘interested’ in deal for defender – Will ‘probably be allowed’ to leave for below release clause

Leicester City remain ‘interested’ in a move for Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah and could get him for cheaper than his €35m release clause.

That’s according to SportBILD, who say Leverkusen will be looking to sell the defender this summer if they can get their target Jeremiah St. Juste.

The newspaper explains that Leverkusen are competing with Borussia Dortmund for Mainz centre-back St. Juste and despite him costing €15m, they have the money after not spending all of the funds from Kai Havertz’s move to Chelsea last summer.

Should they get the 24-year-old, they would then, in turn, sell Jonathan Tah, and Leicester are keen on his signature.

They were interested in a move last summer but didn’t go through with it, instead bringing Wesley Fofana to the club in a move that has proven very successful for both parties.

Tah did have a €35m release clause in his contract, but that has now expired, and so the 25-year-old will ‘probably be allowed’ to leave for a smaller amount.

Leicester, among others, are ‘interested’ in a deal, although it’s not made clear at what price they would like to get the defender.

It is stated that any deal ‘will be late’, though, so it seems like this rumour will run for a while yet.

...it seems every season his name comes up in the wish list!!!

At 25 years old, he is not quite there in his prime and we could have a long term defender on our books until his early thirties.

With his quality and a rotation policy, would he be happy or does he need to be playing every week for his international ambitions.

...the thought had crossed my mind!!!

Go for the player that he would be replaced with, the inference is that he would be better.

It at least gets a conversation started with them knowing who "the big dog" is :D

Not sure what to make of this. He hasn’t lived up to the hype he had a few years ago. I haven’t seen anything of him this season, but statistically he’s had a really good year, but that only tells half the story. As a 4th choice centre half, I don’t think he’d be a bad option but I wouldn’t want to go above £20m for him.

IF we're buying Soumare for 20m and Edouard for 20m, all things considered, do we really think that we're going to blow another 20m+ on what would essentially be a 4th choice centre half? Have we not got other priorities? Are the club likey to spend even more anyway without one big sale, because history would tend to suggest not. A 4th expensive centre half is not required. With Soumare and the return of Barnes, Justin and Maddison, there's no requirement to continue anyway with a back 3. A tactical change is better than blowing 20m+ and several millions on wages. If we continue with a back three there's little chance anyway of making 4th place and Champions League football anyway because we've been playing piss poor with those tactics for quite a while now which were quite possibly only employed out of perceived necessity, albeit that's obviously subjective on here. If we don't make it to 4th this season I predict a mass exodus and need for a total rebuild, so it's essential to spend what funds there are wisely and not collecting players for collectings sake. Surely a player wide right would be a more pressing requirement?
