Revisionists suggesting we steamrollered Croatia when we nudged past them.

Scotland and the Czechs will have watched that and, apart from the first 25 minutes, they won't be too afraid.

A wins a win. It basically puts us through

But why do the pundits keep calling it a ‘brilliant’ performance? There’s so much hyperbole in use at the moment! Sterling is ‘poor’, England were ‘brilliant’ etc

We weren’t brilliant. We scored one goal against a very poor Croatian side on the day

Hopefully Ofcom investigate the amount of camera shots we had of blokes with tops off who really should've had their tops on.

Agreed all in all this has been a tough and uncomfortable watch.

Tournament football is about results. That's why Greece have one more European championships than us, they strung together results.

I've seen enough 1st game draws and defeats for England not to sniff over beating a pretty decent Croatia side. Slowish start, but very hot weather and this win allows England to grow into the tournament now.

At last. The voice of reason.

A win is a win. As a player, as long as you  get over the line, you’re happy. Was it exciting, no. Was it effective, yes.

Jeezuz, some of you lot are hard to please.

Win a cagey opening game, in which croatia created nothing and still complaints. The balance was good today players like Phillips and Mings stepped up a level. Was a good performance and could have won by more

Enough to keep everyone happy there. Easily the better side team so their can get carried away but enough there to keep the doom mongers in the conversation.

Overall, job done.

That was pretty much what I was expecting, 1-0 was about right on the balance of play.

Phillips comfortably man of the match for me. Mount and Sterling played pretty well (nowhere near as well as Jenas seems to be suggesting Sterling played) and most others were a 6/10.

Walker was poor on the ball but his pass into Phillips for the goal was one of the few times somebody managed to break the lines.

Kane was awful, he needs to stop thinking he’s a number 10. He’s not, or at least he shouldn’t try to be for England. He’s a very good striker but he spent too much of the game getting in the way in front of his own back 4. The one time he did manage to get in the penalty area he missed a very straightforward chance.

Has kane got lead in his boots? Drop him he is absolutely pathetic.

Who would you play up front instead of him out of interest?
