A player who works hard and is decent enough for us as part of the squad isn’t a problem, in my opinion. Or certainly doesn’t warrant the stick he gets, anyway. This is the same guy that messed about with Covid rules and massively disrupted our preparations for the at-the-time biggest game of the season vs West Ham, right? Which we lost by the way. And the same guy who missed a sitter vs Chelsea in one of the champions league deciding games, right? By all means defend him if you want, but those arguments don't look very sound to me 1

He should have hit the target though, one of many chances across the season that could have been put away to help secure Champions League, but it just wasn’t to be. Read my post above if you want my opinion on the party incident. Yeah fair enough, sitter is perhaps a bit OTT. But he definitely should have been testing the keeper. FWIW I've not got a personal vendetta against him, I just think he's simply not good enough for a team in our position and with our ambitions. It's not his fault he cost £30m and it's not his fault our squad is so depleted in wide areas. If he was a squad player for us and 3rd/4th choice, I'd be happy with him being around. But gets far too much game time, in relation to his actual quality/performances

Ric Flair Posted 20 July 2021 Posted 20 July 2021 14 minutes ago, pmcla26 said: Doesn’t exactly suggest bad attitude though, shows he’s well liked in the changing rooms anyway. We’ve all made mistakes, and have all flouted COVID rules at times, it was silly but no more than that - you’d also have to hold Barnes, Maddison, Choudhury and Morgan in the same regard. They were disciplined accordingly by Brendan and the club and if that’s the worst that he’s done then he can’t be that much of a bad egg. Didn't Rodgers completely take him out of the first team squad at the start of last season and tell him to get his act together? Reason being he wasn't working hard enough, attitude wasn't on point and the club had pleaded with players not to go to countries that would require them to be late back for pre-season, Perez missed at least a week of it.
Fox92 Posted 20 July 2021 Posted 20 July 2021 Rafa will stick him behind a target man, Calvert Lewin in this case, and get the best out of Perez like he did at Newcastle.
AKCJ Posted 20 July 2021 Posted 20 July 2021 Baffling that anyone would want to get rid of him when we currently only own one right winger and two attacking midfielders (both spent significant time injured last season). 1
Ric Flair Posted 20 July 2021 Posted 20 July 2021 1 minute ago, pmcla26 said: I remember him being out for a bit but thought it was to do with a lack of confidence at the time, off the back of an injury and a dip in form? Could very well be wrong and you be right though but it clearly hasn’t defined Rodgers’ opinion on him as he still chose to utilise him throughout last season so can’t have been anything major if that is the case. Yeah, I don't know for sure. But baring in mind he's been back late for pre-season again this summer it's possible. There was strong rumours several players got fined last summer and if I remember rightly Perez, Ndidi and a few others were late back.

Nobody with a significant amount of goals and assists is coming here to sit in the stands/on the bench. All going to plan we're going to be playing about 50-60 games next season. Going with Albrighton as our only winger would be ridiculous. By all means, sell Perez if we get a winger. But until we do, he'll be staying. 1

I personally think he's a decent character, that doesn't bother me at all. Yes he's possibly annoyed the club and fans a few times for things but that's down to the manager to sort which I trust Brendan on. Its what he does on the pitch that makes me feel sick. 1

What we paid is completely irrelevant, don't be daft. I expect 20-25 goals/assists from Harvey Barnes next season because he's at that level. He cost us nothing.

When we had so many injuries and he was one or the first back in training, I was very happy. He may not be the best player but he works hard and tries hard. Most importantly he's happy to come of the bench and I know for sure I wasn't the only one who prefered him behind Vardy and Kel during the latter parts of the season. For sure 30m was a lot and out of the blue but I wouldn't really want him to go unless we got 15-20m but then who do we get that will stay on the bench? Kdh? Who could be in the Championship getting better. Queue the thumbs down! Me too. There’s not doubt he can offer more in front of goal but some of his strengths really suit Rodgers style of play. He’s a really good presser, almost never loses a tackle when he goes in for them. Finds pockets almost as well as Maddison and arguably is better running with the ball than Maddison. Also makes intelligent runs off the ball. IF and it’s a big if, he could improve his goalscoring, he’d be a 30 million pound player.

He managed 13 goals and 4 assists last season despite missing the last 15 games of the season. He was on pace to manage roughly 24 goals + assists last season so yeah i'd expect that assuming his knee doesn't flare up post-op.
