If we are able to line up his sale with a replacement then fine. We just shouldn't sell him without a replacement. I don't see why you wouldn't do that.

Well considering I want an ACM/Winger anyway then I hope they are being lined up. If they sell Perez we still need 1, if not 2 but bottomline I barely even consider Ayo when I'm thinking of our squad in the future, why would I? I like my football team to win football matches, in 2 seasons he's directly helped us win 2 points that without his goals we'd not have gotten the result. That's why I gob off mate.

We've signed 3 different wingers since then, what difference would it have made if we'd signed Ghezzal, Perez or Ünder before selling Riyad?

We would have been overstocked on right wingers. Would have been pointless signings.

I'm agreeing with you that he's not good enough. That's not the point I'm making. Maybe Sowah could be the man but until he proves that we only have a 32 year old Albrighton ahead of Perez.

But it also wouldn't have made them any more likely to succeed had we bought them before selling Mahrez. If you're saying we shouldn't have sold Mahrez then you must also appreciate we had a player down tools already and by selling him we signed Ricardo, Maddison and Soyuncu that perhaps we couldn't have afforded. I wish we could have kept Mahrez, he was and is unbelievable but I see little similarities with the situation with Perez and I'm also a little confused on what you're trying to say?

Well to be fair, it has proven rather diffcuilt to sign a quality RW, so far Diabates, Ghazell, Perez and Under have all not hit the mark.

It’s not that Perez is a bad player, he’s a good squad player, BUT if there was one player in and around our first team that I feel we can improve on, it would be Perez.

Still doesn't mean we stick with Perez. That's like saying if you left your missus because she cheated on you and then the next one was caught giving the bin man a gobble that you should have stuck with the 1st missus. Don't be daft, just get better.

100% but if we sale him we need to bring two in, as we are already a RW short.

Unless Sowah has a break out season.

It not that I don't agree, just think we would need 2 in if Perez goes.

I also think BR likes him more then we do.

We've now got Sowah don't forget. The real issue is whether we need a new RW and a back up ACM.

For me it would be a quality RW, so we can play 4-3-3 and not worry about a ACM.

So we don't need 2 more RW's + Sowah. I do think a back up LW might be needed though.

Sowah can play both if I remember correctly?

I already think we are miles better off squad wise than last season just with Daka, Soumare, KDH and Sowah.

If we got 1 good RW I'd say its been a great window,

Sowah played left wing 2nd half of last season and was far less effective, but I'll leave Brendan to decide where best to use him.

Its probably time just to bring in Coutinho and then force him to play wherever no one else wants to, like we do with Perez.

Actually I said that in fun, but I now like the idea. Maybe they could live together as well and become a legendary partnership.

Unfortunately for Perez he's never been the centre of this city team - that was initially Vardy and now Tielemans. It seems his form at Newcastle hinged on him being bought space by his colleagues and therefore the number of opportunities created - Benitez recognised him as the 'Mahrez' of that team and setup as such.

The kind of football city now play just doesn't suit any of his strengths which seem to be fewer in number now than they were when he joined. I think he's lost himself a little bit - no longer sure what he excels at in a team of excellent footballers - and so ends up trying to be all sorts but fairly average at all of them. He's been asked to perform different roles but it seems versatility isn't one of his strengths either.

It does feel like his speed/pace has diminished perhaps due to injury and being sidelined which has made him really ineffective at fast moving counter-attacks which we still rely on a lot. I can't remember the number of times last season his speed/lack of confidence curtailed an attacking move. He only remained in his place because there was no alternative.

With more youngsters coming through and new acquisitions I wouldn't be surprised he ends up leaving on a free or loan-to-buy deal. He served his purpose - stuck his leg out at the right place and right time. I hope he does well for the remainder of his time with us but I get the feeling we're nearing the end of his City chapter.

Can this thread be locked until he's actually linked with another club?

Well that's not going to happen... linking to another club that is.

So let's leave it on a positive.   The one and only thing that can be the answer to the question: 'remember when Ayoze Perez........ ?'

I think we can all agree, AP's finest hour:

Which is why we've signed so many great wingers over the last few years

Come on Benitez you know you want him

Might not be too late for Ghezzal as well, if he wants all our failed attempts to replace Riyad at the club.
