This has been going on long before the pandemic. It’s about £100k to train, but there is absolutely no guarantee of a job. To make it worse, you need to keep your hours up on the aircraft for which you’re rated - if this is, for example, a 737, you’re going to need to rent a 737 and fly it around and your own expense just to keep hold of the license you spent a hundred grand getting.

But this is generally a good thing, no?

I don't really want to be flown on my hols by someone who hasn't been in a plane for a couple of months/years... :o

Didn’t say it wasn’t. Simply pointing out that training to become a pilot is for only the very wealthiest at the moment.

I'd probably want to brew beer.

Apart from the cleaning - I'd definitely get a cleaner in.

Been brewing for a few years and enjoy the R&D side and the brewing process. Just made 300 pints for a festival, which was hard work due to the limited equipment I have, but was very satisfying.

(But all the cleaning up can get in the fkin bin).

If I didn't do what I do, I'd quite like to be a car detailer. It started as a lockdown hobby but I'm now finding myself doing friends, neighbors, and families cars and I really enjoy it (and I'm told I do a good job as I've got a keen eye for detail!)

I find taking someone's filthy, scratched, faded, shabby car and transforming it in a day through a proper deep cleaning and machine polishing process, strangely satisfying.

Don't think I'd ever do it for the money or a career change, but I'm seriously considering it as my major thing to do when I retire (and playing golf)

You're on, mate...I'll drop mine round in the morning   :P

Wildlife tour guide in scottish highlands. There is nothing as satisfying as being able to point out a soaring eagle, or a playful Otter to those who have never seen one before. That or run my own fishery, maybe with a small tackle/bait shop on site. Maybe run an out of school fishing club for youngster to get them engaged with the countryside.

My (or should i say Mrs Urbans) current plan is to cash in my pension, buy a motorhome and spend time travelling around the UK doing volunteering work at various nature reserves.

Having hardly missed a days work in forty odd years, often doing long and/or unsociable hours running my own business mainly working as a self employed consultant on some major projects, i am in the lucky position that i no longer need to be a wage slave so as long as i could make a few quid here and there to cover basic living expenses i would be happy.

The problem is, like many, i always throw myself into whatever it is i am involved in and then end up back to square one working full time.

I could go for being Jay Rayner or Grace Dent-the best restaurants in the world falling flat when you walk in, and then a bit of other things/radio work when you fancy it.

Or a Michelin inspector-that would be fine too…

Would like to work outside on an RSPB reserve.

probably not a dream job,but I’ve always thought if I had enough money to stop working I could do voluntary work in a hospital wheeling patients down to X-ray,scans operations.I could chat shit, cheer them up a bit and hopefully  I’ve made them feel a bit better about their situation.

Been there, done that... Atrocious pay but very satisfying work. Best job I ever had on the happiness scale, just couldn't pay the bills etc.

My local reserve is/was made up of ancient woodland, hills, moors, mountains and an awesome estuary plus miles of coastline. An amazing variation in wildlife and a chance to work with endangered species. Iolo Williams was a colleague at the time, raptor Specialist for Wales.

My dream job has always been to be a sports journalist.

Getting paid to fly around the world, watching the biggest sporting events would be incredible.

Ideally on TV or radio.

But then I did a sports journalism degree.

I'd still love to do it, but it changed my opinion of the industry massively.

Lots of different aspects of journalism interest me.

On the degree, only one module was on the sports side of things, the rest was made up of other things, such as creative writing and law.

I'd rather be in the print side of things now, I don't have a face for TV or a voice for radio anyway (we aren't all lucky enough to be blessed with dulcet tones like @UpTheLeagueFox)

I wouldn't even mind being a war correspondent or a political journalist.

Learnt so much at uni and it definitely expanded my mind.

I'd like to do my journalism industry qualifications, which my degree didn't include, but I never get round to it. In hindsight, I should have started it when I was on furlough last year, but it was a time of financial uncertainty.

It's a world away from driving an Amazon van.

I've had some news on a job back in the car industry this weekend though, so fingers crossed.

Cheers for that. I couldn't contemplate any more than a few months delivering for Amazon. And I always make sure I thank them when they meet me at my front door (or on the edge of our drive). It's largely a thankless job, I imagine. Good on ya though, for doing something whilst you were between more rewarding jobs. :appl:

Thanks mate, but doesn't come even close to saving lives.

You must have some right tales to tell.

You're right though, costs nothing to say "Thank You".

90% of people are so lovely. They do thank me, even offer you a drink and have a little chat with you.

It's the other 10% though. They've ordered something, you ring the doorbell, they peep from behind a curtain and look at you like you've just shat on there doorstep..."Hi, you ok? Got Amazon for you..."

It's actually unbelievable. I just walk off and mutter "you're welcome".

I had one woman on Friday who thought I was about to rob her house, despite a massive Amazon van outside and me carrying 2 boxes.

"Excuse me, can I help you? What the hell are you doing on my property?"

I would love to tell some people what I actually think of them lol

I don't expect anything apart from manners.

After watching the Olympics, I've changed my mind.

My dream job is to be the head coach of an international Handball team.

"Erm...yeah. Catch it and throw it and and shit"

"Good job...don't drop it though..."

Whenever I think of this, I always come back to potentially being an academic of some sort. Potentially something I'll try to explore in a year or so after gaining more experience and progressing in the lab I'm currently at

I'm somehow slightly surprised it is only 10% of people who are actually a bit weird when something they ordered arrives to the place they ordered it to, when they were told it was coming, and when their Amazon delivery person is usually there.

Frankly I would be really good at being ****ing rich and enjoying myself.  I sometimes see people win the lottery and think, no, they won't have nearly as much fun with the money as I would.  Not even close.
