Yeah that does look awesome. I was inspired by the game "Firewatch".

There was an article on BBC website last week about fire lookouts

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-57626403

Yeah, I was aware of the game but had never played it. I've always liked tales about living in the wilderness, but where people have quite a nice time, rather than it being a terrible test of endurance to bang on about.

There's a book called The Shining Levels about a bloke that goes to live in pretty much a shed in the Lake District and that's great

Airline pilot. Only thing I’ve ever wanted to do really.

Will never, ever happen; especially now all the existing pilots have been made redundant and are driving Amazon vans.

I read the other day of some chap who had just qualified as a commercial pilot and was made redundant after just a handful of flights.

He now works in a car factory.

£90000 it cost him to qualify too. I bet it isn't cheap to maintain your license by booking time in flight simulators either.

I’ve had great jobs which I’ve loved and been fortunate to have some success at.

But if I could realistically retrain… I’d be a ranger of a national park.

I've always had a funny relationship with work. Basically I don't like it. But I do like the structure it gives me. So i don't really have a dream job. I just work as little as I can get away with and try to get paid as much as I can for doing so.little.

It would be kinda nice to be an elite member of the special forces though. Keeping fit. Lots of mental agility. Being trained in all sorts of fields; electronics, IT, weapons, engineering, fighting (krav maga). Lots of downtime mixed in with short bursts of extreme adrenaline.  I think killing baddies - and not batting an eyelid afterwards or any PTSD shite - would be kinda cool.too 😀👌

Genuinely, I would sell my kids’ souls if I could get a job as that person in gifs being messed about with by errant panda bears.

“How was work today, dear?”

”Oh you know, bloody pandas doing panda things again!”

I'd have loved to have been a stand up comedian but I don't have the nerve nor the talent (although lack of talent doesn't seem a barrier nowadays).

Alternatively a T20 cricketer seems a really good job.

Session drummer. Absolutely love drumming but have had no means to practice for years so I sort of stagnated at an intermediate level, but it's the one thing in life that I love to do more than anything else. Sitting at a well set-up kit and having a bash just seems to connect with my soul, so to get paid for doing it without having the baggage of being in a touring band would be incredible

Also want to run a music café in my later years

I want to own and operate a cafe/diner specialising in American style breakfast dishes. I don't want it to be American themed, I just want it to be the sort of place you find a lot in the states, but not really over here - doing pancakes, waffles, steak and eggs etc alongside fry ups.

Something I've thought about recently is that I would love to own a sports/games venue with snooker tables, pool tables, dart boards and other stuff. Done properly, and not some of the shit holes I've seen. No idea if it would make any money but I reckon it would be cool. Need to win some money first though lol

If there was a place like that round here and it was half decent, I'd be in all the time. Surely be missing a bit of a trick not having it American-themed to a certain extent though?

Backpack, Dressing gown and (sockless) shoe designer

At first, I thought you were aspiring to actually be a backpack. I began to worry that your James Maddison obsession might have gone too far. :D

Tour guide.   I have always liked bit of history and enjoyed sharing my knowledge with others so I thought it would be cool to be able to walk around cities and impart my wisdom!

I currently work in social work and a colleague of mine left due to stress to work as a tour guide......right before the pandemic.  I do hope he is okay.

My brother's brother-in-law manages the Isle of Lundy. I was talking to him at a family wedding last weekend and from what he says it sounds idyllic, some problem solving and maintenance of the rental properties, not too hectic, dealing with a limited number of visitors every week, showing them round the island, describing the history, flora and fauna, the sea birds, puffins, seals. One shop which his wife runs as well as managing the accommodation. And the relative peace and pace of life.

My old boss (proper idiot) is obsessed with the States. Everything American is just the best, regardless. Loves TRUMP. Loves 'MURICA. Kind of guy where if you've been somewhere, he's been 5 times and did it better. Proper coq. I genuinely don't dislike many people at all but this bloke is number 1 on the list.

Anyway, he would regularly say he wanted to set up a restaurant here which was affordable and did a wide range of miles so would be great for large groups and families; it would have a bar area, a central salad station with salad/pasta etc etc and then you'd just order your main of a menu. He would not have it that he had just described Harvester.

Always wanted to be an Air Traffic Controller. Got quite close to realising that dream in my early 20s by passing assessments, but failed the face to face interview. Couldn’t afford to do it now as training pay is low and would need to relocate to Bournemouth. Ended up a SQL developer, which is like getting paid to solve puzzles so I can’t complain.

This has been going on long before the pandemic. Like you say, it’s about £100k to train, but there is absolutely no guarantee of a job. Also, like you say, you need to keep your hours up on the aircraft for which you’re rated - if this is, for example, a 737, you’re going to need to rent a 737 and fly it around and your own expense (I’m not sure you can solely rely on simulator hours?) just to keep hold of the license you spent a hundred grand getting. It’s basically untenable except for people who can legitimately afford to fritter away £120k on a gamble.
