Popular Post Bert Posted 11 August 2021 Popular Post Posted 11 August 2021 Probably gonna be in the minority here but he’s actually a decent bloke, of course he won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, just like me and you won’t be. How many of you know him on a personal level? Whenever we bump into each other, he’s always got time to talk, asks about your well-being & family etc. I can bet my life that most people saying he’s this that and the other are just making their perception of him from what they hear over the radio. Spend ten minutes or so with the bloke and you’ll see he’s not as bad as you think. 21
Nalis Posted 11 August 2021 Posted 11 August 2021 There were a guy in uni (lets call him Dave) who was a massive try hard and general all round horrible person who climbed the social ladder to hang out with the perceived alpha group much to everyone's confusion. Then one day he wasnt part of the group. On a random night out after a few beers I asked one of the guys in the group where's Dave as I hadn't seen him with those chaps in ages. Turns out that everyone in the group disliked him for the aforementioned reasons but Dave did such a good job convincing everyone that he belonged that they never questioned whether the others in the group liked him or not. Ian Stringer reminds me of Dave.

Pliskin Posted 11 August 2021 Posted 11 August 2021 I use the clubs commentary now, I do like Matt piper a lot though. I stopped listened to it after they kicked Youngy off, nothing like hearing him throw sandwiches and start on forest fans on the radio….. 1

TrickyTrev Benjamin Posted 11 August 2021 Posted 11 August 2021 Give it to the True Fox till the end of the season !

I’ve met him a couple of times and he’s always been very pleasant and like you say will stand and have a chat with you. His commentary on the whole isn’t entirely that bad, I’ve listened to other before when I’m out of Leicestershire driving or something, and they tend to sound annoyed that they’re even there. 2
Hollism Posted 11 August 2021 Posted 11 August 2021 Stringer’s never gonna be picked up by a national radio, but I really don’t get some of the contempt for him. Honestly next time you’re in the car on a Saturday afternoon, try and tune in to another BBC station for their football commentary. Every other station seems so boring and drab you’ll never curse RL again 4
los dedos Posted 11 August 2021 Posted 11 August 2021 " Foxes" Literally the only person that talks about City using the nickname . Annoys me way more than it should . 2
Leicester_Loyal Posted 11 August 2021 Posted 11 August 2021 Yeah I meant nothing personal by my comment, just not my cup of tea and I've found him to be a bit of a fanny. Still probably a half decent bloke and like you say, does a bit for charity etc.
Tommy G Posted 11 August 2021 Posted 11 August 2021 His side kick Owen Palter Atkison or whatever his name is really tries hard to replicate the way Stringer delivers his sentences, almost like he is trying hard to copy his style and bad one liners. I don't know whether anyone else has picked up on this. He should try and get a style to suit himself rather than copy someone elses
evil jack Posted 11 August 2021 Posted 11 August 2021 I like him. I like Robbie Savage too. I'm easily pleased.

The easy thing for people to do if they don’t like him is just don’t listen. 3
Le Renard Posted 11 August 2021 Posted 11 August 2021 He uses too many superlatives for me, but I'm pretty sure if I was on the radio, lots of people would find me annoying. I also think Matt Piper tempers some of Stringer's bombastic use of the english language and gives a more common sense opinion!
wigstonboues Posted 11 August 2021 Posted 11 August 2021 Whilst on the subject of annoying presenters...... did anyone else at the villareal game think the match announcer was awful? They are either American or desperately trying to be american. Minor things but it bugged the life out of me at the game.
jmono84 Posted 11 August 2021 Posted 11 August 2021 I like most of his shows but there are times I find him annoying… but don’t we find all people annoying some way or another. The thing he needs to stop is at the start of the forum show when the music plays and he does the air guitar GO thing. That’s proper cringe 😂😂
foxile5 Posted 11 August 2021 Posted 11 August 2021 Pipes and Strings sounds like a follow up to tubular bells. 3

When I was at Uni we had to do sport bulletin broadcasts as if we had 15 seconds on 5 Live to update you from “around the grounds” - we’d been listening to Conor MacNamara as examples before doing our own - so I ended up doing mine in the same style as him…..probably shouldn’t have done the Irish accent though. Derm Tanner was my lecturer for that part of my course. Now he’s a broadcaster. Top bloke. West Ham fan, but you can’t have it all.
jonthefox Posted 11 August 2021 Posted 11 August 2021 My lads mate messaged him recently about working in radio/media ( something he wants to do) and all he got back was a load of patronising rubbish. I'm sure he said something along the lines of ' if you'd have called me mr Stringer, i may have been bothered to answer'.
Jacafox Posted 11 August 2021 Posted 11 August 2021 Can't knock his passion for the club, commentary is ok, I can see why people get annoyed at times, however I think he is decent. Better than other local stations I've listened to

On Monday, I tuned in again looking forward to a preview of the new season and within seconds Ian had me reaching for the off button because of his insistence on playing the champions league theme. My understanding is that a year or two back, listeners overwhelmingly voted against hearing it every week. But every week, without fail, he still references not being allowed to play it. And then on Monday he plays it regardless. Why does he insist on persisting with it? He’s like uncle nob head at family events, always rolling out the same gags. You can almost feel Matt Piper and guests etc rolling their eyes. The fact that we’ve missed out on the champions league in the way we have makes this joke even less funny for me. Calling Owynn his full name each and every time is another one which has worn thin in my opinion. Come on Ian, you’re a great commentator and nobody can fault your passion for Leicester. I just wish you’d focus on what you do best and stop trying to be a comedian. You've been Partridged
