When I'm at the station on a Saturday morning, I've got 6 or 7 minutes til the the train is due, optimum time to get my cup of Tea, my Breakfast snacks are no good without one, just needs tea bag, boiling water, milk, 1 minute job, only one customer in front of me and then they ask for four variable combinations of "Flat Frappe Late, skinny smooth, Arabaco deep filtered, Light Skimmed Americana deep roast with yaks milk and coconut cream and cinnamon shot and a sprinkle of chocolate, sprinkled at a 83 degree angle from a Northerly direction by a left handed man" :@

There should be two queue's, one for straight forward requests one for the selfish ****holes who could have said "Mate, if yours is straight forward go ahead, I'm an ***l pretentious *****r who is going to dominate this drinks counter for the next 15 minutes." The server, sorry Barista (thought they worked in Courts?) then goes into precision surgery mode and builds up his wondrous creation with meticulous detail while Mr  A***hole interjects with additions and corrections followed by the inevitable "Which one is which" conversation after the lids have gone on. Even when you think it's your turn he comes back and asks for "A dash more Almond Drizzle and Grated Orange Peel" :@ What happened to just Tea, Coffee or Chocolate?

No fan of coffee. Dislike the taste. Tried to get into it with that "flavoured" coffee stuff but it... just tasted of coffee.

Coffee chocolate and ice cream though. Get in my fizog. Adore the stuff. Coffee and walnut cake it the best.

Not feeling the love for coffee drinkers ;)

My last UK coffee was an americano from Shrewsbury railway station (Starbucks I think it was) My mistake really, should have known better. It was scalding hot water, undrinkable and I ended up tipping it away.

There's a decent coffee shop near opposite the station too as I recall.

Pretty crazy that people might want to consume something that not only they like, but also tastes interesting

Ha that takes me back to when I worked at a train station Nero and I'd have to deal with the "make it quickly I've got a train to catch" twats all the time (by 'deal with' I mean nod and do nothing differently).  How dare the guy with training who gets paid to make coffee bother to do so properly for their other customers who you are no more important than lol

Have you considered planning your morning better and not preciously blaming other people for the very avoidable fact that you haven't allowed yourself enough time to visit a coffee shop before your train leaves?

Better yet if you just want a boring tea there's no need to go to a specialist vendor, just buy a thermos and make it before you leave the house you lazy sod.  Christ the entitlement in that rant.

As far as large chains go Tim Hortons are the best IMO. None of their fancy stuff though just their normal (can't remember what they call it) coffee. Much better than Starbucks or Costa. If I'm ever in Leicester and want a coffee without spending a fortune on it Tim Hortons is always where I go. That being said you'll still get better in independent coffee shops but you'll pay for it.

Sounds lovely, did you hear how much it cost?

Probably wise.

But your heart really shouldn’t be pissing at all, never mind non-stop, so I’d get that looked at if I were you.

I havent had timmies coffee in England. Only over here in Canada and perhaps i just get tired of it.  Whats interesting is that i can't recall ever buying coffee whenever i fly back to England to visit or watch some city games. I miiiight have bought one from costa in sheffield area but clearly it wasn't memorable lol

Disappointed this thread was not called "What grinds my beans!"

I like coffee, we bought a bean to cup machine at the start of lockdown, definitely got our money's worth with us working from home for 18 months.

Sorry, I'll have a word with myself.

Mods, can it be changed? :D

The thread was created on a whim, so we could get back to looking at Phunny Photos lol

I know people get annoyed at the cost of a coffee in the big (and some small) chains, but they are forgetting that you are purchasing a nice place to sit down*. It costs money to have staff who keep the place clean, the cost of nice fittings, as well as the rent and business rates. The same way a pub will charge four or five pounds for a beer they only pay a pound for.

* takeaway coffee should be cheaper.

Agree and disagree.

Coming from a pub background, do you know why 95% of pubs have a coffee machine now?

Tea and coffee are the biggest profit margins. By an absolute mile.

A teabag costs about 2p, you'll pay £1.50 to £2 for a cup.

A coffee costs them about 12p, you'll pay around £1.50 to £3.

That's in a pub. Where hot drinks are predominantly something you'll serve for breakfast, before 12pm

Do not get annoyed by a chain charging that much for a coffee. That is their main business. They are making a bloody fortune.

They could halve their prices and still make a damn good profit.

That sounds like me.

Funny that, I like mine strong, mature and dark.

Maybe we should swap numbers @Raj :Plol

Now, if you like you're women how you like you whisky, we're made for each other....

No disagreement there, as I can see. As I put originally, people are not paying £3 for a coffee, they are paying for a nice place to sit (and a coffee thrown in).

But I'd suggest you are slightly understating the cost of their beverage. For example a lot of milk is needed for a latte or cappuccino.

I have known pubs that got rid of the coffee machine after installing. Doesn't work if only one or two customers drink the stuff. But I can see it becoming more widespread again now that more people dine out in pubs.
