I thought that was going to be a funny photo, to be ironic.

I'm not a fan of instant stuff, but the proper stuff it great.

I've got a machine at home, wouldn't spend 4 quid on a cup at a chain shop.

Pods don't count lol

Lavazza Super Crema is pretty consistent and decent. Also quite rate the Lidl special buys for the money.

The Lavazza black and gold bags are very good, especially freshly ground. Probably the closest taste wise to espresso I had in Italy.

Now here's a place to be outrageously pretentious, apologies in advance...

I use Two Chimps Coffee who are based out in Oakham.  I went to a coffee tasting session there and they were run by a really nice couple and stuck with them as felt nice to support people, and a small business, actually realising their passions.  As the coffees are seasonal, whenever I find a gem I tend to buy it by the kilos as they never last long in stock.  Just checked and my favourite from them, more coal for the engine, is no longer available!

I not long ago got the Sage "Smart" (don't ask me, it's a grinder...) coffee grinder which has been superb.  I'd noticed the difference in beans being ground for the same time gave such varying volumes of coffee.  Excellent investment.

Plus some non fancy good quality beans is the way to do it.

While the Aeropress is good you really can't beat the quality of a Chemex. Get a Chemex, decent beans, a burr grinder and some scales and it'll change your perception of coffee. It's like a completely different drink.

I know people get annoyed at the cost of a coffee in the big (and some small) chains, but they are forgetting that you are purchasing a nice place to sit down*. It costs money to have staff who keep the place clean, the cost of nice fittings, as well as the rent and business rates. The same way a pub will charge four or five pounds for a beer they only pay a pound for.

* takeaway coffee should be cheaper.

Great instinctive natural finisher, neat and tidy outside the box, had a bit of a slow start but then really clicked into gear with us and was a decent strike partner for Heskey for a while.

Oh "Coffee".....sorry

Homemsde cofee/cappuccino taste a million times better than the stuff made by Starbucks/Costa etc. And it's cheaper. I'm amazed that Starbucks & Costa are still in business, nevemind the fact that they make billions in revenue. Any business that would make such horrendous product would soon see themselves out of business.

Yep.

Working from home in 2020 I went about 4 months only having homemade espresso. Got a Costa in July that year and it tasted like puke. Awful stuff.

Costa's Flat white is nice.

Nero and Pret I'd say both do better coffee, but I try and get to an independent/local gaff most of the time.

Some of the independent places do very acidic coffee though, because they use a single obscure variety of bean. Italian coffee brands are a much nicer blend for me, although like beer I suppose you like what you've got used to.

I had always had the Brown Lid Nescafe until there was a relaunch in a red lid with different taste / formula, found it bitter and wishy washy, I remember the general furore at the time. Since then a lot of the bargain shops have some variants of Brown lidded Nescafe, supposedly made here but intended for export, I call them "Bootleg Nescafe", not sure how legit they are, of the three different slightly different ones I tried one came close to ye olde traditional version . But I forgot which one or where I bought it :dunno:. Anyone know the ins, outs, politics etc of the Brown Lid Scandal? And which coffee comes closest to the original? I have Gold Blend now but it's a bit more expensive. Too expensive to give away to visitors anyway :D
