Our fixtures around it are a lot worse than theirs - though I do wonder if by then we'll have hit a point where we've accepted the league campaign is a bit of a damp squib. I actually wouldn't moan if we went for this over say the Everton game.

My thinking too. Would much rather we go for this cup then say a single match away at the Etihad we are destined to lose anyway. We saw the effect of resting players against Brighton for the Arsenal match. Ruined any rhythm and we looked no fresher. Of course the more games a player plays, more risk of injury. No risk, no reward.

This cup may be devalued but it's still silverware and a chance to get into a European competition. For me, still exciting and for the club too. For Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City etc. this is pretty much a nothing cup and gives them no reward.

The fixture list this time is far harsher though. With that Everton game we had no Europe, and no Premier League midweek game the week before either. The scheduling this time is going to virtually guarantee a round of reserve sides again.

I just simply don't think we've got the squad for it, even now.

I knew Arsenal would draw Sunderland. Their luck is back. Think they're actually not a bad bet to win the whole thing as they've got less distractions than the others.

Can see this cup going in the next couple of years to be honest. I don't think the cheapning of it with embarrassing draws like that one earlier is an accident.

Agree with the first point. I just think that Rodgers will take this more seriously than Klopp or Nuno. He may not go full strength but I would expect 6-8 of our "best XI". All depends what system/tactics he will deploy.

Sadly I now agree. I get trying to jazz it up but they've pushed an already disliked and abused competition further towards irrelevance. Draws in the middle of the night, that one yesterday, didn't they do one online at 3pm on a Thursday?

It has been battling for decades for it to be taken seriously but now it seems to have given up.

With the stupid Christmas schedule I can't see us being able to play anything like a full team for this. Even if we were to win there's still too many top teams in the competition left to give us anything more than an outside chance.

That’s us out then

But is it?

They couldn't beat Brighton at home yesterday.  Will almost certainly play a weaker team as they are now chasing Chelsea.

On paper I think we will have a stronger team out than them.

Though their bench which may have been a weakness in comparison to Manc and Chelski doesn't seem as weak as initially looked.

Think we will still have a chance but they will be favourites.

Liverpool winning their CL group means they can play the reserves in their last two group games.  That makes it more likely that we could see more of their first choice players in the qtr final

No chance imo.

They don't want the semi finals 2 weeks later straight after the busy Christmas period and missing key players to AFCON.

I don’t see them bothered about the comp but if their AFCON players aren’t overly tired then he may decide to play them.  I agree that klopp will prioritise the PL

Probably because we haven't beat them at Anfield for 20+ years.

Stats like that mean very little. If they play an 11 of u23s it doesn't matter that we lined up with Akinbiyi and Lee Marshall 19 years ago.

It's more to do with the feeling you get after visiting Anfield for 20 years and never winning.

Only fans are devaluing it,

by typing into & all over the immature pundit media clickbaits..!!

Strange most top teams, clubs & players usually win it & love the glory of having it on their CV.

And madly celebrate everytime they hoist it aloft..

Not sure about being favourites going to Anfield. Don’t think that ever been the case. Although, I do like your optimism and we have a surprisingly good record against Liverpool.

Anyone know when tickets go on sale? Hope we get a decent allocation up there. The lads will need all the support they can get from the LCFC fans up there. Although, tricky time as right before Xmas and on a week night…

We’ll get the standard away allocation I would imagine. Klopp won’t play full strength but he’ll certainly be playing a stronger eleven than he has in previous rounds.
