I wonder if he has eye on running down his contract after his recent interview in Danish press.

Veteran keepers on a free are usually a good signing for big clubs in weaker leagues with a guarantee of European football.

He would be nearly 37 by the end of his contract, probably his last chance to play in another country elsewhere and having a final payday.

Could'nt begrudge him that after he's fantastic service to be fair.

Exactly the kind of thing I was thinking.

Maybe even Copenhagen.

That would make a lot of sense.

I've got no idea why more players don't wind down their careers at a decent level where they can realistically still win trophies and compete in Europe.

There are some quotes in here.

I think that tweet makes it more dramatic than it is.

It’s like the Kasey Keller scenario all those years ago. I don’t see him leaving us for a fee so it would be at the end of his existing contract. From our perspective, he’d have paid back every penny of his £1.5m transfer fee and we’d probably be looking to a longer term goal keeping option.

He’ll leave as a legend, with two (hopefully more) major trophies.

We’re going to be facing over the next 3 or 4 years something that we haven’t really had to deal with before: three irreplaceable players leaving or retiring.

Tielemans

Vardy

Schmeichel

Just as much for their mentality off the pitch as their quality on it. Those top 4 misses were sliding doors moments and we’ll be reeling from it in years to come.

Tielemans is not in that list, a loss for sure, but not in the same bracket as the other two.

Kasper’s a legend and probably our greatest ever keeper, he’s played a massive role in the most successful time in the clubs history and he was of course unbelievable in the FA Cup final.

Having said that I don’t think him losing would be as bad as many think, him being the one to choose to leave could actually do us a favour as opposed to us trying to replace him, to me he feels like an undroppable character who wouldn’t ever accept being a backup and it’s clear that despite his quality there’s limitations in his game and in truth I don’t think he’s improved on them, when you consider the style of football we want to play we could end up better off in some ways.

Not so sure. Our best player and the 'manager on the pitch' by many accounts.

Our team is going to look a lot different come the end of next season and I'm getting very concerned we could fall back unless we continue with some astute signings.

This is the most worries I've been about our near future in a while.

End of next season we will lose the following to end of their contract/age if they haven't gone already.

Kasper (personally think he'll stay - may even want a new contract)

Evans

Soyuncu

Ricardo

Tielemans

Vardy

Also out of contract:

Perez

Amartey

For a club who is meant to be so good at business, that's 5 players with very decent values that could leave for free on a pre contract in just over a year's time. Absolutely shocking stuff.

Agreed, he'll be much tougher to replace than the other two, we'd be losing a top class midfielder only just coming into his prime, whereas the other two, we would be losing players that were top quality in their prime, but will be very much on the decline by the time they leave.

If he didn't punch the ball into the net on the last day of the season he'd be playing champions league football.

Think it's an incredibly stupid thing for our captain to say to be honest, particularly after an indifferent season.

The club has a ton of decent goalkeepers on the books - iversen, young and ward all look great. It's not my biggest concern if he did decide to leave as good as he's been for us. The corner issues are exacerbated by a guy who won't leave his 6 yard box.

I don't think he is saying much wrong and probably only agreeing with what 99% of the LCFC fan base has said that we should have played CL football once or twice in the last two seasons.

If you want to be successful as an individual and a club, you have to have aspirations and reflect on how you did or didn't meet those aspirations.

It would be very special and achievable with Man City out and the other big boys possibly distracted by the Champs League.

I'd take 8th and the League Cup all day long.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if Rodgers has his eye on the league cup. Liverpool away will be very tough though, regardless of what team they put out.

If Schmeichel goes Ward will be the number one.

Schmeichel is here for another 18 months though.

Yeh it will be between Ward and Iversen, doubt we will invest massively in a new keeper, unless the Brendan and the coaches don't think Ward and Iversen are strong enough to be number 1. Iversen has been one of the stand out keepers in the championship the last 18 months so in another 18 months he could potentially be better than Ward if he keeps developing at the rate he is.

I was just taking the piss - is he that highly rated?

Iversen has had good reports out on loan, good level in the Championship too.

Rotherham fans I know all liked him and he's now in his second spell at Preston so they obviously wanted him back.

Being a first choice is a lot different to playing League Cup games like Ward has done but he'll only be 30 in two years time and you'd imagine the next contract was offered with him being given regular football at some point. Schmeichel would've given them a heads up on this, contracts are discussed well in advance.

Of course, things could change and Schmeichel signs another deal to stay. Lots of hypotheticals currently.

I agree. I was just reading the quotes, they're all that matter.

Not necessarily only about Youri’s quality, if Messi turned up for one season, he wouldn’t be on the list, Kasper and Jamie are iconic players for the club due to not only performances but longevity too.

Although losing Youri will be an inevitable pain in the ass for sure, and I wouldn’t discount any of those players not extending.
