Perez Mark II.

He’ll be an expensive flop in the Premier League, as he doesn’t have the explosive power, low centre of gravity or work rate to be a success.

We pulled out of this race when the bidding went above €15m.

...I would be surprised if 15m Euros was the moment we terminated our interest!!!

A player with his skillset on and off the ball would warrant a more earnest pursuit. He has the work rate, he is unselfish a team player and not all players have a low centre of gravity, you will probably find that the majority do not, with the exceptional ones with that trait being pretty successful in their careers.

I would believe a season at Milan and he would be double what they paid for him. The likelihood that he would then be out of our ability to meet his asking price in the future.

If we don't sign him now (and we won't, we're a distant third at best) we never will as he's going to be above our level.

Apparently willing to reduce his already agreed upon salary with Milan to get the deal done. We never stood a chance and I feel sorry for the people that emotionally invest in these sorts of transfers every year.

Its revisionist to say we never stood a chance when we never even bothered making a bid

We know he was open for a move here, had we actually made a bid and fought for him we'd have probably gotten him. The only reason Milan are currently cruising is because he obviously doesn't wanna go to Leeds so Milan can just toy with Brugge and keep the price under Leeds' bid

Former Anderlecht and Ajax striker Jan Mulder has questioned the decision, stating that Jesse Marsch's style of play at Elland Road would suit De Ketelaere.

“Charles does not want to live and play football at a club that fought against relegation last season," Mulder told HUMO.

“But Leeds, under coach Bielsa, played some of the nicest football in the world in recent years.

“Under Red Bull Salzburg-American Jesse Marsch, who wanted De Ketelaere and immediately pledged the requested 40 million, they are doing about as well in terms of attack.

“(That’s) exactly the game that suits De Ketelaere. The Premier League, where the pace is murderous and the opposition fiercer, is better and much more attractive than the bygone glory of Serie A.

“Charles chooses the worshippers of sentiment. The mistake of the year.”

....interesting, you would think he would have given us some kind of consideration ahead of Leeds!!!

With our situation, it would have been difficult to have brought him in, I think if Nacho was sold it might have happened.

First off, I don't think we were ever in the game financially.  Leeds was in with the biggest offer, which naturally the club would have accepted.

As to where CDK would rather have gone, who knows?  As Mulder (the truth is out there) says, Marsch's system is ideal for the way the kid plays.  And it could easily be perceived that Rodgers is on his way out the door.  No idea which PL club he would have preferred, but I don't think the decision ever came up because I don't think we were ever a realistic option.

Like I said, I was told when this deal went above €15m, we pulled out. His value sky rocketed when others started to look.

We are lacking liquidity to get transfers done it seems.

Same happened with Madueke last year. Maybe it's a case of not having the money or maybe it's a case of looking for good value and not having our pants pulled down.

There’s a Leeds fan on here now, man. I think he can defend Jesse’s honor.

He has never suggested he wants to play for us or indeed in the PL and the only way to get such players is to make him an offer he can't refuse I.e. far more than anybody else. That was never going to happen.

I mean last year before we had the chance to move on Madueke our first choice centre back broke his leg and we felt the need to pay 15m to replace him.

This is the point I was making on Lookman, even if 15m seems cheap it may as well be 500m if its stopping you being able to afford your main targets.
