Not even joking, one of my new colleagues was just talking about a restaurant, got some photos up on his phone to show everyone and actually said "it's quite bouji".

They're asked to create a brand and campaign within the space of a day or so despite the fact it might not be something they do day to day, then they're asked to pitch to industry nerds (who wouldn't do a perfectly polished job in that timeframe, either). They don't get nearly enough wiggle room to deliberate or organically grow ideas as you would in a normal place of work so 99% of the time they just go with the first idea anyone comes up with to have *something*. 

I get the point that it is not their normal jobs and time constraints make it tough. But if you can't see you're making a turd for a logo then you're not a good candidate. Although he fired the only one who pointed out how bad the logo is. Then you have to pitch and defend the idea, no matter how bad it is.
