‘We’ve got money to spend’, have we? We’re 29 days into january and havent bid for anyone. We arent buying anyone. We’ve been here many times before. They lied to Ruud when they appointed him

How many times does it have to be said…..  the squad was at its maximum capacity, why would they openly make bids for players with the risk of not getting players out? I’m sure fans would probably be more pissed off if we signed players and not be able to register them……..

We all know how tight lipped our club is.
if we’ve surrendered to the possibility that no one is coming than the only other possibility is they pull a rabid out of the hat on deadline day. Hope it’s this Pavlovic geezer from Milan. Looks a proper hard & fast bugger. Just what we need in defence

I think what’s more damning than the list itself is looking at where the clubs he’s been at were when he took over compared to when he left.

Southampton were the best of the rest at that time no?

Everton were a solid mid table club that now can’t avoid circling the plug hole.

Us- I mean, granted we were on a bit of a slide but I still think the squad that was inherited at that time should have been coming 8th and look at us now.

Some of those Everton signings weren't his. Walsh after he left us.

One being Pickford.

I mean I don't rate Rudkin either, but signing somebody already in the grip of a fatal disease would be a new low....

Isn't that just the same argument people defending Rudkin have here? There's a difference between Chief Scout and DOF.... Walsh went to Everton as DOF and Glover was Chief Scout.

Walsh was very quickly isolated at Everton, Koemen didn't like working with him, and Allardyce is mates with Glover, so a lot of the work on signings was done without Walsh, it's widely known, stories been told over and over.

I mentioned the other day about Walsh recommending Robertson, Maguire and Haaland for Everton and getting told to be quiet.

We know Choudhury had a squad number but did Cannon have one? If so that gives us 2 spaces, a 3rd would be if Palace did the decent thingand took Eduoard back, still think that Ruud doesn’t trust Buonanotte and he could also go back to Brighton with Ferguson coming to us for a loan with an option to buy, I personally think Buonanotte is a great prospect but I don’t think we could afford him if that option came up…

Cannon was on loan at Stoke so did not have a squad number. And Palace will not take Edouard back.

Yes and no.

Believe we had an agreement for so long with Everton that they couldn't go after any of the targets we were looking at on a bigger scale I.e. going to make a move for said player.

First player everton signed at the end of that agreement? Pickford.

Tell you the most depressing thing. The thought of us giving Walsh the job he actually wanted, and starting that season with Robertson, Maguire and Haaland in our squad lol

Translation from the article referenced:

With Leicester City, a club from the Premier League also has Wimmer on the shopping list and, according to BILD information, is currently exploring the chances of a lightning transfer this winter. Milan and Juve, on the other hand, would probably concentrate on next season.

Wimmer has to make a decision about the future by summer at the latest. If, despite his outstanding qualities (20 goals in 63 games), he often has to accept a bench position rather than a starting position, a move to England or Italy could become increasingly interesting. Milan and Juventus in particular have great appeal and great international appeal.

Wanted him when he was at Bielefeld - don't think he comes here if Milan/Juventus are in for him in the summer.

Would be quite a clever signing that. Very talented but rotates a lot with Thiago Thomas and the fact they often play with or without wingers.

If we get relegated chances are he's loaned to Milan or Juve for a fee in the summer anyway (like Leeds do a lot)

I don't know why, but I think Alex Ox could actually do well for us this season, on paper I'd say he's a disaster and we should steer clear, but I just have a gut feeling he would come here and put a good shift in. Could we do better? sure, but if it comes down to it and we can't get our targets and by some miracle we shift Edouard, i'd take him for a 6 month loan.

Fits the exact profile of the type of winger we need right now.

Pace and ball-carrying ability, his defensive numbers are also solid, especially when he was at Arminia Bielefeld.

Realistically though, there’s a bunch of wingers in the Bundesliga, Serie A and Liga Portugal that are probably easier to attain right now.

We're not compelled to name Edouard in the squad of 25 provided we can afford to leave him out. People keep talking about freeing up squad places to get players in, but it's not uncommon for players to be left out of the 25 if they're deemed surplus to requirements...

Yeah I think that's likely what we will do if we get desperate, but that would also be just peak Leicester City where we end up paying out a few million to a player in wages when he's not even registered lol

Even if he was left out of the squad of 25, wouldn't he still count towards the loan quota and therefor prevent another loan coming in?

It might be nothing to do with current PSR, although equally could be, it might be to do with not wanting to burden the squad for 3/4 years with more players another manager might not want.

The right loans could be sensible, low risk and players with a shop window to get a permanent move in the Prem while potentially keeping us up.

For me, at this stage it feels like we just need new faces in however that is structured to give this group another boost so we can push on and survive. Unfortunately our reality at the minute is purely around survival.

That's a lot of sense tbf. It's this world we live in now we're signings are the answer and demands are over the top for all clubs. Now clubs need to be more prudent because of PSR. Well run clubs will have taken that into account, but those that are desperate might not. Let's be honest we spent in the last time we was in this position and it didn't help. So club may be wary of doing the same. Or, Rudkin is just white.

Good question. I'm not sure, but I'd guess that the rules covering loans relate to the squad of 25 & so leaving him out would free up another PL loan space. But even if it didn't enable us to get another PL loan, leaving him out of the squad would free up a space for an overseas loan.

We also have four goalkeepers in the squad. So we could leave one out if needed.
