Harsh, I don't think anybody is saying he should be offered that kind of money again.

Maybe, but I guess the point I’m trying to make is that we are more likely to be offering him £20k/£30k a week and he doesnt sign that, so we need to be selling him now.

I hear you - be shame to lose a fee altogether. He will be a big help in this campaign though if we do hope to get promoted straight back. It's a gamble that's for sure.

I agree that he’s a good player to have in this league and I’m sure he will stay for this season and leave on a free at the end but if we get a semi reasonable offer I think we will look to move him on.

Same applies to Winks for me, and probably Luke Thomas although I suspect we get him on a new contract. You move a few of them earners on for £5m upwards and you have a some extra cash in the pot and £10m saved in wages that you wouldn’t have previously had.

Wouldn’t be surprised if the Besiktas interest has been leaked by JJ’s representatives to try and generate interest from Premier League clubs, there could be some tentative interest that’s been shown and they want to try and hurry it along.

JJ would be a decent squad/rotation option for any mid/lower level premier league club.

If you think about a side like West Ham though, they essentially just got that option for Free. No brainer really isn't it.

You'd imagine bullshit

I'd say so yes.

Theyve gone after Van Ewijk at Cov. Very much doubt this happens.

Who said anything about renewing him at that level ?

See my posts above, he’s not likely to accept anywhere near what we can offer now so it’s in our interest to sell.

I could see him ending up at a club like Fulham or Everton, probably get him for £7.5m over a 3 year deal it’s £2.5m per year PSR for an experienced premier league defender who can cover both full back roles.

Completely agree which shows the value in him - some fans are quick to dismiss the quality we do have and our record of upgrading in recent times leaves a bit to be desired - he’s a good pro with a good attitude too - should be low on our list of players to discard imo

It’ll likely come down to weighing up any offer with his value this season, but for all of the reasons you have highlighted above he isn’t going to sign a new contract on what we can currently offer and therefore will be another player that’s walking away for nothing.

Before pre-season I would have said selling JJ would be silly due to his versatility, but I do think we have a ready made replacement in Aluko. So selling JJ would be higher in priorities if we need the cash.

They definitely aren’t going to come in for JJ permanently

Not sure where else he'd get more than £30k a week nowadays. He's had the peak of his career, he'll have no resale value at the end of his next contract.

True, but if he leaves on a free I recon he could get more. I wonder what West Ham are paying KWP.

We tend to either buy players that are ****ing mustard and they move to some of the richest clubs in the world for massive fees, or complete rubbish we've overpaid for that nobody else is willing to pay higher wages to to take off us.

This bipolar nature of our recruitment pretty much all but guarantees what you're suggesting will never happen.

With a 30-40% pay cut from relegation he's probably still on £60-70k a week which we cannot sustain and he'll leave on a free next summer.

I'd take anything over £3-4m for him.

He can’t be on that kind of money surely!?

I had him down as a £30k a week player.

If we can sell him now it’s a no brainer, he’ll go at the end of the season regardless and we have plenty of options at FB.

He’s out of contract at the end of the season though, so a loan would be completely pointless. I’ve no issue with Soumare or Daka disappearing on loan never to be seen again, but Justin is versatile and unless we get a fee for him we might as well use him

Not saying we should but a loan would get his wages of the bill and probably get us a loan fee of 500k - 2 m so there would be a point to it. It's better than keeping him not playing him much and then letting him leave for free

Signed a new 5 year contract when our average wage was over £90k a week....
