So if those were 4 of our options at this level and we're not dominating, it will be even more laughable than it has been 3

I lived in Peterborough for a few years and have mates who are Posh fans - they really, really rate Collins. Works all day and by all accounts a good character, often their captain. Peterborough have been desperate for him to sign a new contract but he wants to step up. I'd argue not buying players like him because they come from a club like Peterborough is one of the main things that got us into this mess. Reminds me of when Everton fans turned their nose up at KDH... until they actually saw him play, and now they love him. 22

Sure in terms of "names" but I'd argue it has the potential to be the best considering the type of player we are going to have to bring in. No more names looking for a pay day that we cant budge, hungry players with a point to prove on smaller deals....hopefully....I do have trust issues with our recruitment team so lets see what the first few signings look like. I'd agree if we had a completely new recruitment structure but we haven't. They'll have absolutely no clue whats needed to rebuild this club. 5
woznotwos Posted 26 June Posted 26 June I saw a few games at Posh towards the end of the season and they were all talking about how the team misses Archie who was out .

That was also one of peterbough's biggest issues last season. A lack of defensive solidity and energy in midfield, at which Collins was supposedly the defensive component of. Collins is more of the same type of midfielder we already have and which has got us into so much trouble. A midfield controller without enough energy or defensive nous to sit at the base of midfield. davieG Posted 26 June Posted 26 June Recruitment will rest entirely on who we haven't managed to shift and judging from recent history there's likely to be one or two of these Faes, Okoli, Winks, Skipp, Decordova-Reid, Kristiansen, Vestergaard not forgetting Choudhury, Mavididi, Vieites (is he still with us) refusing to be flushed away. 1

What a depressing thought that we could play the first game with the majority of these starting the game. I do like your optimism that only one or two of these will be left, more like we have managed to get rid of one or two, and they will be season long loans with us paying a chunk of their wages. 1

I've never seen him play but this is the verbatim response from a Peterborough season ticket holder when I asked him what type of player he is: Quote Top level league one player, just gets on with it, no fuss/verbals. Proper engine, always buzzing about. No real flare but gets the odd goal and does all the dirty work, tackling, really well. 1

My understanding is that Peterborough are a similar team to us, trying too hard to be fancy and not doing enough of the basics, with Collins being no different. In my opinion we don't need more of what we currently are, we need hard working players. If that is actually what Collins is then he sounds like a good signing. 2

These are my trust issues...just have time hope Mccaron and the fact we have to now shop in a different pool means we get lucky and figure it out...im trying to be objectively positive, which felt a bit dirty tbh 1
kingfox Posted 26 June Posted 26 June As much as many of us aren’t keen on Russell’s style, we all know what is required when it comes to certain positions, especially the “6” role. If both Winks and Skipp leave, either Archie Collins or Ryan Wintle feel like no-brainers imo, I don’t know how anybody can turn their nose up at two of the best midfielders in League 1 last season. 2
CloudFox Posted 26 June Posted 26 June I feel like the Archie Collins rumour has been around for a while now, so there must be a good chance it will happen. 2

If Hourihane comes in as assistant, feels more like a no-brainer imo. Can play pretty much across the whole frontline too, could offer something similar to what Adam Armstrong offered Martin at Southampton. 3

Here going we are learning from mistakes and getting things moving early and with the correct type of player to build a new foundation. Just need rumours to shift the gorms out that we don't want.
