Pliskin Posted 24 February 2022 Posted 24 February 2022 Even those optimistic fans shrugging off relegation like it won’t happen have got to admit the situation is dire and unacceptable. Those mentioning Leeds and then saying “they’re in free fall”, well, so are we? We’re not winning football matches. It’s one thing playing well against the likes of Wolves, who will give you a bit of time on the ball, but playing teams like Burnley is a different thing all together. They’re scrapping for every point, throwing all they can into each game, at the moment we can’t match that, we’re mentally weak and defensively frail, both are a recipe for disaster. To think we will pick up points against against the lower teams just because they’re in the bottom cluster of clubs is fairly naive. I really don’t fancy us against Burnley at all…. Everyone knows we can’t defend, get balls in and around our penalty area and we will likely concede. 3
smudgerfox Posted 24 February 2022 Posted 24 February 2022 Two things 1 momentum - we have none. We will become a major story - the team that finished fifth twice in a row which will turn our every game to high profile 2 when the chips are down BR teams wilt 1
Popular Post Dames Posted 24 February 2022 Popular Post Posted 24 February 2022 2 halves of above average football does not mean we'll be safe. We need to start picking up points and fast. 5
RonnieTodger Posted 24 February 2022 Posted 24 February 2022 Weghorst will bully our defence on tuesday 2

I’d be more concerned if I was Everton, Brentford, Leeds, Burnley, Watford or Norwich, maybe even Crystal Palace. We’ll finish above all of them. Ourselves, Villa and Newcastle have more than enough quality to not get relegated. We’ll finished somewhere between 9th and 13th. This is my take but until we actually win a league game again I'm not going to just assume we'll be OK because what this team has proven before is that it can fall apart under pressure. Its a completely different type of pressure when trying to cling on to the top 4 but if we didn't then 5th is still seen as an achievement than scrabbling about to retain our Premier League status which is unthinkable a year ago, it could get a bit nasty and I'm not sure how much bottle there is for that bar a few of the obvious characters. Get that 1st win in the league in 2022 and I'm sure we'll be OK. 1 1
Fox92 Posted 24 February 2022 Posted 24 February 2022 Not worried at all. But that will change next week IF we lose to Burnley and Leeds.
AjcW Posted 24 February 2022 Posted 24 February 2022 I think the lowest ever 17th place survival total will be broken this season (34pts WBA) so i'm not overly worried, it's essentially 2 wins. Can genuinely see 17th place having 30pts maybe this season? Doesn't make the current situation excusable though. As many have said the kicker will be when there's no more excuses, when Wes and Vards are back etc.

We can’t defend, and this blind optimism that our form will suddenly drastically turn once Fofana is back is naive. Burnley is a monster game for us, lose, and we’re in huge trouble. Genuinely. The form does not need to turn to stay up. We will get 44 points if we keep collecting points at the same rate.
Flannel_Fox Posted 24 February 2022 Posted 24 February 2022 On the bright side can you imagine our team in the championship next year. Daka scoring about 50 1 1

Looking at the way things are progressing I think it may be a bit higher. However 3 wins from the last 15 get us to 36 so it is not a major task.

Anything less than 45 points this season is a monumental regression and unforgiveable. The next 3-4 league games will be telling because really our injury problems aren't anywhere near as bad as they were and yet we've still not rediscovered how to win again yet. 1
Switzfox Posted 24 February 2022 Posted 24 February 2022 Can easily see Burnley and Newcastle getting 38 points or so. I think we need 40. Leeds a bit unknown. Everton will get the points. Next two league games are massive for us.

I very much expect it to be Norwich Watford and Brentford right now with Leeds just about surviving. Edited 24 February 2022 by Sampson

Absolutely trash teams get 45 points in this division, it’s not difficult. We get 41 or so in our first season back..

norwichfox Posted 24 February 2022 Posted 24 February 2022 Just like last year, we have games in hand...what can possibly go wrong?...pffttt 1

Yes I was being very lenient, even 50 is still a shit season but a drop off of more than 15 points in a season is diabolical and more than 20 is a disaster. 1
Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 24 February 2022 Posted 24 February 2022 I could see the board acting if we don’t get at least 4 points from Burnley and Leeds. We cannot undo all the good work. Just like when Claudio had us flirting with relegation, it’s simply not an option. 1
The Doctor Posted 24 February 2022 Posted 24 February 2022 14 hours ago, Russell sprout said: Lose on Tuesday and Burnley also win on Saturday then the gap is 1 point Not quite. The smallest the gap could be after the Burnley game is 3 points, based on - Leeds beating spurs, Newcastle beating Brentford, villa beating Brighton, Burnley beating palace and us and Everton beating man city. Likelihood is that Leeds and Everton won't win, so we'll be going into Burnley looking at maybe a 5 point lead, which is still far from good enough
Fox seen in Norwich Posted 24 February 2022 Posted 24 February 2022 Everton home and Watford away in game weeks 36 and 37. Roll up the sleeves, fight and prey! i think we’ll be fine. if we do get in a relegation battle/go down hope the people that had melt downs dropping from 4th to 5th two seasons running wake up and realise how fortunate we were to be in that position twice!!

roblcfc84 Posted 24 February 2022 Posted 24 February 2022 Honestly think If we lose to Burnley and don’t make a change we are in big trouble
