These two have had back-to-back great performances. With Schmeichel playing better behind them, we are looking a hell of a lot more solid in defence.

It’s not just the two clean sheets, the collective unit has put in two fantastic games. It’s great to see.

They should be played together, without fear of needing to be resting them, as we have Fofana on the verge of a return, and there’s always Vestergaard (who played well against Randers in both legs). I’ve also been told, by someone who see’s the training each day, that Vesty is really “upping his game, and settling in better”. Take that how you want!

Anyway, great that we’re not under pressure to rush back Fofana.

They arent perfect and the teams we've played have had chances against us but its nice to see us generally defend better and the 2 clean sheets will ve a confidence boost going into the Rennes matches.

To be successful a team needs a stable back 4.  WE continue to swap the fullbacks -  IMO we should see out the season with Chahlar and Big Dan.

Dan is a very conscientious player - and he is playing very well (ref the job he did on Antonio) - he had a poor first game on return form afcon - but otherwise he has been pretty consistent.  Evans may not play three games in a row for the rest of his career.  Amarty should be given a new contract.  Thomas, KDH and Amarty should play every game.

Vestergaard did not play well in both legs vs Randers, he was awful in the 2nd leg.

we rush him back it will cause injury and strains - eg. Like Justin.  Ease him in - next season should be his target to start.

It depends on how much game time Fofana can get to build up his fitness first but Rodgers will drop one of Big Dan or Cags as soon as they have a stinker. Agree about needing a stable back 4 but think Rodgers will be wanting Fofana to be part of that as soon as he can.

They both have cut out the ridiculous mistakes but I still don't trust them.

All defenders ,even Baresi, make the odd mistake. Van Dyck was caught out a couple of times yesterday and got lucky. The idea is if you slip up, your defensive partners cover. Morgan,Huth , Simpson and Fuchs read each others games so well , one of them was usually ready to cover for the other.

And then he will get injured.  Just like justin

They have both done well recently but let’s not pretend they are our first choice CB pairing. They’ll be ok until little Wes gets back but I’m Concerned about Evans.  He’s getting on a bit and to be out for so long is going to slow him down. He was hardly Usain Bolt before  the injuries started last season so we definitely need an Evans replacement.. a big  money CB signing.

It's proved to be a good combination, and in fact has been the strongest combination of any of the CB pairings we've put out this season, including when Evans was fit, because Evans injuries / fitness was clearly causing him issues.

Amartey I believe has been involved in the highest number of wins for us out of any of our CBs. He's made lots of errors too, but that is impressive and shows that he's become a valued squad player.

At the end of the day, having a settled side usually results in better performances, and that's been the biggest issue we've had all season. Because Ricardo was injured it meant that our back 4 had to change again, and we must have had the highest number of back 4 changes out of any side other than Leeds this season.

lol this place.

I don't mean to be overly negative, I don't particularly mean to be negative at all to be honest, just balanced.

Burnley had literally no attack what so ever, Randers should honestly have scored about five goals in the second half alone and we only kept a clean sheet yesterday because Kasper put in a man of the match performance, including literally making a reaction save one-on-one from three yards out.

We have definitely improved over the last couple of games, defending as a unit has improved, collectively as a team. But I think we're probably a way shy of starting new threads to celebrate "back to back great performances!" and relaxing because now we don't need to worry about our better centre backs becoming fit again! Reactions like this are only fractionally better than the ones claiming we're going to get relegated if Fofana isn't fit by yesterday.

We've got three ridiculously tough games in seven days coming up. Lets see how we cope there before getting overly 'self' congratulatory.

Yeh and experienced centre back to partner Fofana is a must in the summer for me. I'd like Tarkowski on a free but no doubt Newcastle will offer him more money than we could.

Soyuncu still not signed a new deal so we may need 2 centre backs dependant an how much we will be able to get out of Evans. Amartey is fine to keep around for back up as he's a steady player just not fantastic. Vestergaard needs moving on with Bertrand

You’ve said it yourself at the start of your post. You are being overly negative!

This forum usually is.

I’m not overly celebrating them. But credit where it’s due, we have defended well in the past 3 or 4 games.

Teams have come at us, and we’ve coped well. Cutting out silly mistakes, and it’s paying off.
