There has to be a reasonable explanation as to why the club would screw over every fan who's paid full whack for this already...

@Chocolate Teapot you must have something...

Ever been to shop where they've been things on the shop floor but no one is buying it, only to get back the next week to see it discounted?

Back in the Championship they used to regularly sell match tickets for less than a ST had paid.

As a student back then I never paid more than a tenner and my mates who were working and had ST's had to lump it.

I'm just not willing to get irate about this one as quickly as some on here until I have more facts, people should apply this approach more often.

This isn't me towing the company line, I'm the 1st to question what the club do as evidenced in various threads.

I'm not defending it but it is how modern clubs see fans. We are nothing more than customers.

Its not bad business practice though its quite clever, you can count on a good chunk of the loyal core customers to buy at the initial raised price point and when things slow down target the more casual customer with a discount.

Morally its awful but the club need to claw back the covid losses one way or another.

If it's morally awful ripping off loyal core customers then that's bad business practice. In most businesses, you LOOK AFTER the people who have been loyal to you and charge extra for those that haven't. That applies whether it's a Tesco Clubcard or a trade price at a warehouse or whatever.

Am I giving them too much credit by assuming it was just a code shared with, for example, a local charity for young people they support to attend cheaper? Then someone has just leaked it?

Perhaps. But if they were genuinely trying to shift some more tickets by discount, they'd have properly advertised it.

Yeah I think this is the case but it's still frustrating. Ticket office litteraly can't go 6 weeks without a major gaff nowadays.

It may well be but they are fools not to make a big show of that if the case.

If it goes to the radar of PSV fans, LCFC will have a case with UEFA as well - https://www.fpal.org/football/champions-league/champions-league-tickets-too-expensive-for-bayern-fans-uefa-checks/ Can't sell tickets at a lesser price than the away end prices for a comparable seat.

Again, we're not talking clothing or bargain bin stuff here, we're talking about 15-20k people buying tickets to an event, only to then find a select few have been getting them 50% cheaper. Events should be sold as priced, especially to loyal customers.

That was for league games in champ not when they have set the price for the cup game anticipating everyone will be jumping on them

Yes mate, but the same people are arguing core customers be ripped out their seats so Jonny from Syston, who only goes for the atmosphere, can sing the Danny amartey song for 90 mins.

The irony is staggering.

In any walk of life someone will always have paid less for something than you. If we're calling out this do we call out the thousands of freebies our brand partners give out every week?

That said, it's a big **** up by the club.

Those aren't being sold by the club, that's hospitality/corporate event who all pay the club sponsorship fees so in essence have paid for the tickets that they're giving away.

...Sky gives discounted prices to new customers!!!

It is a pretty common thing that businesses do.

Once you have taken up a subscription and you have had it for a year, your kids and the rest of the family are not going to want it to go, and you feel like your losing something from your life that you have become accustomed to.

The same thing will apply to the new customer with their discounted deal. Once they have you, you don't want to ever let it go.

Hate to break it to you but not all sponsorship tickets go to corporate hospitality - a lot just go in the stands.

What a terrible post. 'Ripped out their seats'? Moved to a different area of the ground to facilitate other 'core customers' who wish to create an atmosphere.

I think you'll find it is very different.

Not really a comparable example in the slightest.

I'm currently in the process of 'leaving' my broadband, mobile phone and all insurance contracts to coerce the call from the loyalty depts to get on their better rates. Crappy annual exercise that treats the customer like dirt, but just another part of modern day life. It's a shame that this practice has now gone down to football, but you'd be insanely naive to think lcfc isnt just another business, especially more so now as they need new customers to fill extra seats. Only thing you can do if you dont like it is actually leave. That being said, as the post above says, maybe this was a discount code to a charity/school that got out of hand on here. Anyway, hope lots got to use it before it expired.

Is this the brand new customers thing at play here? Most of his have been the subject of a loyalty premium for services whether it be banks, broadband, insurance, energy etc. That's why the switching sites sprung up so that we can change providers to get the best deals. No such thing as morals where business is concerned. Simples.

Ps. Not sure how it applies with LCFC ticket prices.

See my previous reply. It's not so much the STH element or the loyalty, just the fact that it's an event. You don't start off at £30, then sell the rest of the tickets with the same view for £15. You don't see that happening with concerts, or a Strictly tour oreven other sports. Everyone should pay the same.

It's the way that touts work. The price is high 2 hours before kick off but almost giveaway 2 minutes before. If the club don't think they will sell out at the current price then it's a choice of sell them cheap or leave them empty. Not defending them, btw.

The point about it being a business move is only partly correct. It’s an incredible short term cash in with little legacy to it.

1) if it’s a form of a charity or outreach deal, a business would be publicising this as its great PR. For work, we’ve done all sorts of CSR days as it looks great for impact.

2) Due to the set up of memberships and season tickets, there’s very little legacy to getting those seats filled. If you are buying on general sale, you are still in the very long queue for other fixtures. The demand might step up for a potential semi final for example but you are at the back of the queue.

Therefore it makes you think why they didn’t just do better value prices from the offer to attract more season ticket holders to take their seats and the members. Particularly those in the latter category are the people who in the near future are going to spend ‘legacy’ money. They’d have made more money as well.

3) Slightly stepping away from the code, the non policing of general sale is going to see a potential for trouble again. There’s very little stopping PSV fans buying tickets in home ends as per Napoli and Legia games. There’s an irony cos of the way LCFC sold away tickets for Legia in particular.

That's a bit strange too because a quick tot up on the ticketing page shows somewhere between 3-4000 left. They'll be gone in a week, no problem.

I was trying to think of a few random events and they were the only ones that came into my head. I probably should've gone for Stormzy.

...I am assuming that when the season ticket was purchased it had a seat number on it!!!

As a contract with the club you are entitled to have that seat available to you on every home matchday for the league program.

The club has no right to break that contract unless the owner of the seat has committed an act, which has warranted his expulsion from the ground and in turn has led to the revocation of his contract.

You cannot on a whim break a contract. If people do not want to move, they shouldn't have to, and they should not be subjected to an environment that forces them to attempt to relocate, as it would be tantamount to constructive dismissal.
