Stop bringing in deadwood and introduce a complete transfer ban with Southampton. This will help us get back on track and is easy to accomplish.

Our away record absolutely has to improve, 3-4-8. The only wins have been at newly promoted Norwich & Brentford, the other being Burnley. Lost at Wolves, West Ham & Brighton, the teams near us in the table

100% do, purely for the away trips. However, I don't think it'll be a bad thing if we don't, we'd perform a lot better in the league and could have a real go at top 6 again. I think aiming for and achieving Europe every 2 or 3 years is about the best we can ask for.

If we've got the 7th highest revenue and the 7th highest wage bill (and finances are usually the reason used to say we can't compete with the top 6) that's bit unambitious

To be fair that wage bill needs to come down doesn't it, due to the turnover vs. wages calculation.

If we're already in Europe as well it's gonna be difficult to finish 7th, with all the extra games. You can sign all these players but then you have a season or two out of Europe and you have a massive squad on inflated wages and we'll only play 45-50 games rather than 60 when in Europe. It's hard for a club like us to get right, at least teams like Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal can gurantee European football almost every season, so can have a big squad.

We do need to reduce the wage bill, it shows that spending doesn't guarantee anything. We're not automatically going to finish 7th just because we have the 7th highest expenditure. On the flip side, we can finish above United, Arsenal, Spurs etc - finances aren't that deterministic which sort of contradicts my initial point.

There is an associated burden with playing in Europe but if we want to progress as a club we have to get over it. Spurs made it into the 'big six' by progressing from consistent mid table finishes to being European regulars. We have to be in Europe if we want to attract & retain good players.

I wish people would stop calling every misstep 'bottling'. There are evident signs of progress, one defeat and too many cannot wait to roll out any grievance possible.

I agree, mostly. The latter part of the season has shown "what could have been" without the COVID/injuries sh!tstorm, which I don't think can really be laid entirely at Rodgers feet, as most seem to want to do.

We made 8 changes for Sunday, and the result reflected that for the most part. But the last minute winner? That was certainly a bottling, and we have had a few of those this season. How many points have we dropped this season after the 90th minute, let alone from a winning position in general?

Rodgers himself says this is a problem. If we could hold onto our leads better we would be well in the European spots, and probably the Champions League spots. At the same time, this makes me very hopeful for next season (and also for the Roma series).

Honestly?

Priority would be recruit a leader. Someone who has been there, done it. A seasoned winner.

Schmeichel is our third highest appearance maker, supposedly is a leader and has four honours with us.

There's not many (if any) seasoned winners out there that would either join or improve us. KDH will grow into this sort of player.

The last two European away performances have been the anti-bottle. Grit, focus, poise, desire. Everything you'd want from your football team

Attack with intent more often, not only when we are 2 down, play for the win. Stop the passing along the back line back and forth. If we are 3 goals up then yes waste the time. Yesterday we were in the 5th minute of added time and the defenders were passing it between them like it was the 2nd minute and we were already winning comfortably, so frustrating to watch.

Shame they didn't do that for 30 secs more and get the draw eh?

Honestly, I like that we actually tried getting it forward. I'd rather lose trying to win than draw just keeping the ball. If we were winning yes wind the clock down.

This thread is literally about how to improve our points total. Our (league high) record at losing points from winning positions has been discussed here and elsewhere at length. And you're advocating for losing possession in the final moments of a game and are happy with us losing a match because of it?

Another day on Foxestalk,  another 'curious' comment...

Advocating attacking? Yes all day long. Attack more and quicker, we score more goals and guess what? We gain more points.

The negative possession based football has what has caused the need for this thread.

Curious that you're asking if I want us to attack?

The fact we gave the ball away and conceded doesn't change the fact we need to attack more. Sorry if you want me to say yes it's the last minute, let's keep it in the corner and take a point, I can't, the only time I'd be happy with that is if that point was the one needed to win something or attain safety in the last game of the season.

Clean up basic errors, especially on set-pieces, plus improve our own conversion rate from set-pieces. Don’t think the task is that hard, if fofana and evans are playing most games, we definitely will concede far less.

Lobby for a restructure:

25 points for a win.

13 points for a draw

6.5 points for a loss.

4 bonus points for scoring an EVEN amount of goals in excess of 2.

-16 points if you play without a striker or describe one of your players as a 'false 9'.

Plus LEAGUE points available in the DOMESTIC CUPS!

Should be a record breaking season for the boys in blue.
