The Running Thread (formerly How fast can you run a 5k?)

Same old mistakes for me. Go for a run after work having not fueled enough and thought I was going to pass out after 5k so stopped.

Pretty wild that I can do a 26 miler and not feel a fraction as bad after a 5k 5 mins under my PB time. It’s either that or something else going on.

I did the Sence Valley parkrun near Ibstock for the first time today. Class morning for running, a decent route with a little hill and great volunteers 👍🏼👍🏼

The original route was hilarious…..the big grassy hilly field that’s on your left hand side as you run along a narrow path? Yeah you used to go up down up down and back to rejoin the path. It was hideous

Thought a run along the canal in Glen Parva would be nice tonight. I was wrong! Swarms and swarms of midges, dunno why I forgot that happens in the evening, but I reckon I swallowed at least 10 and got 2 in each eye!

Shokz for headphones - was skeptical at first but now wouldn’t be without them

Absolutely agree, sounds silly but I think I've got used to using them to a point where the sound quality seems better than when I first got them, does that make sense?

Couple of 10 milers in a row. As above, stunning morning for it. No better place to run than down the canal from South Wigston towards Kirby.

Not the marathon I wanted, quads felt like they filled with cement with 10 miles to go, after that it became run/walk with each run causing something else to tighten up lol

Sub 4, turned into a hobble to go sub 5, but I loved every minute of that.

Well done mate.

I did Belfast Victoria parkrun on Saturday. Supposedly the quickest and easiest park run in the UK. And I concur. Three laps of the flattest. Well surfaced. My quickest 5k of the year by some distance

Nice one mate, you finished it and sub 5 is decent.

Stepping up my running at it's not been going amazingly well this year.

Did some glute bridges this morning for first time in ages, and it's obvious they're barely there at the minute, so that explains a lot.

Don't skimp on your conditioning exercises, my friends

In full maranoia mode now with a few days to go before the big day. I'm even anxious about the expo for no apparent reason.

In other news, a chap from my club came 6th at Manchester yesterday and was "disappointed" with his time. Sickening.

Same here. I've been rehabbing an injury for the past 4 week, one point i didn't know if id actually be able to run it. Did a 10k saturday so feeling a bit better.

Other than going to work im in near lockdown conditions.

Getting nervous about the expo too but more about travelling from St.Pancras to there and back to the hotel.

I’ve had this before where I’ve gone out at lunchtime before eating. Thought because it was an easy run I’d be fine, but stopped at traffic lights and felt as though i was going to pass out. Was just lack of fuelling.

Cheers. Yeah it’s definitely this, and confirms I’m just an idiot.

I still run before eating lunch, but I make sure I have a couple rounds of toast half an hour before. Gives me just enough to get round.
