I'm not a big Rodgers fan, but you have to be fair in your assessment of something and that is a good result against Chelsea at their place.

If we can finish It off with a win against Southampton then that's a positive end to a pretty dull season.

Flashscores has us down as having 2 dangerous attacks in the 2nd half. 2.

Absolute nothing game and we've not even tried to take it to a Chelsea team that barely looked arsed themselves.

....if we actually came to defend, it might have been good if we were honest about how we setup and what we were looking to achieve!!!

The way we chose to setup made little sense, as we spent the game defending. We chose a formation that we do not usually play and expected to compete.

If we came to defend the result would probably have been worse by inviting them on to us. We did fall back to what seemed 442 out of possession very quickly but I think you have to give credit where it is due and Chelsea are a very good competitive and combative team. I don’t think we had a great game offensively apart from a few good spells of possession and a great piece of skill from Maddison. Some of our players did look tired but they did put a shift in and looked motivated. 1-1 away at Chelsea is a good result and most would have taken that before the game.

....this was setup to be a counter attacking game for us due to the highline Chelsea played!!!

Vardy was never mentioned, the pace of Barnes was wasted on the bench and when he came on, we employed him in a strikers role, with his penchant for drifting offside. In the end our inability to progress the ball quickly from defence, when the Chelsea siege broke down, was a big factor in us not taking advantage of the windows that presented themselves. We started to morph into a 5-4-1 as I felt we should have started, inviting teams on and setting traps are perfectly legitimate plans to pursue in a game.

Good result albeit fortunate. I think for all the bad luck with injuries we've more than cancelled it out with better results than the performances deserve.

Agree 💯

I thought our defence was cracking at times. Some of the best all season.

A point away to Chelsea? Yeppers, we'll take that! :D  Shame about Everton staying up, but still...

Just shows how momentum can keep a team going. Confidence a little higher going in to last night and we get a credible draw.

I think we made a mistake with hindsight messing about with changes in the league and drawing or losing and losing that winning feeling going in to those Roma matches.

As poor as Youri has been. He can still split a pass better than most once or twice a game and he always offers a pass

Offers a pass, often as not, to an opposition player! How many times has he opened us up to a counter this season? He can 'split a pass' but not often enough to make his inclusion worthwhile in terms of outcome. He could be a pivotal figure but he lacks focus. This is why he needs to go -yet the queue of suitors is notable for it's non-appearance.

Disagree strongly.

He’s statically our highest performer in relation to passing, xAssists, key passes and progressive passing.

Football fans love a scapegoat.

I watched some of it on a live stream site but heard the rest.

We have Maddison to thank for getting that goal before the game settled into a pattern.

A great defensive game for me means that no or little opportunity is given to the team having the kind of possession which Chelsea were revelling in.

Pulisic missed a sitter and Lukaku squandered opportunities.

In spite of the fact that Schmeichel, Fofana and Evans (and Castagne - to an extent)/were outstanding, every time Chelsea came forward it felt like a goal was likely. That says that individuals put up bravura performances but a cohesive defence is still a long way from being in place.

We miss Wilf so much and yet people talk about selling him!

So City were lucky, very lucky, to come away with the point. No game is a "nothing game" if glaring inadequacies are still not being addressed.

Not just football fans. Personally, I don't need a scapegoat to vent my frustration on - if I chose to it would be Rodgers.

I'm wary of using statistics to prove x is happening, when I can see a slightly different picture in real time. When I find myself muttering "not again, Youri" then a pattern has developed in my thinking as far as he's concerned.

I wish he was as involved as Maddison is.

Can we just have a moments silence to express how magnificent Maddisons goal was......

It was interesting to be on the end of possession football for a change. Chelsea obviously looked stronger, but it felt like they were huffing and puffing rather than being great. For all their possession, they had to resort to some cynical fouls at some points. That 2 footer from i think Rüdiger was pretty special, and i didn't like seeing that foul on Wes towards the end.

And how average does Kante look now?

Take a draw against dirty russian money. Could we finish 8th? If we do, o i have to accept that the season wasn't as bad i had been saying all along?

The statistics are used because they distinguish when it’s a bias occurring which is happening to Tielemans. Your real time thinking is easy to alter to inner bias.

My original point was I don’t see KDH or Mendy capable of finding players in the same way Tielemans can and last night firmly proved that. KDHs passing was in particular wasteful

Your talking absolute nonsense,

There's too many "talking absolute nonsense" on here about Rodgers to negate his shortcomings. If he's given more time, over summer, to assemble a squad which can compete to a standard that reflects our potential as a club and he manages that, then its point proven. I'll allow that the injuries have had an effect which no one could have foreseen, yet glaring shortcomings in the defensive complement haven't been addressed.

We'll see.

This looks like the benefit of hindsight. There is always a calculated risk in these kind of decisions. At the time it certainly seemed wise to prioritise the semi-final against Roma. OK, we ended up losing by the odd goal over two legs and we could definitely have played better in the second leg, but it does not mean the priorities were wrong.
